My thoughts exactly. I've been one of his harshest critics throughout the last few years but he WAS one of better, if not the best, player out there yesterday.
I think the problem is that 'cos he can be, and often is, sublime with the ball and in showcasing his skills, anything less than perfection is seen by many as failure.
 
Let's bring this fiasco back to reality shall we and analyse why we can't score. All players will miss from time to time.

The most obvious things about the way we play are that:

The emphasis is on keeping a clean sheet. That may well cost us eventually

There is no one in our team who has any creativity apart from Adel Taarabt. I'm not talking about the odd pass over 90 minutes into the box that others make. I'm talking about strategy.

His team mates realise that. They look to pass it to him always because he is the only one confident enough to have a go.

Every team we play also realises that. As soon as he gets the ball he is surrounded by 3 or 4 opponents. It is actually a woonder he manages to retain the ball as often as he does and releases it to another player.

The formation at home is I'm afraid completely wrong. We have to play with two up front or midfielders have to be prepared to make runs into the box or preferably both.

One up front only works in that way and with the right man. Jamie Mackie for all his industry is not that man. Remy is but wtf? Is the 4 hour medical or the way we train to blame for the fact that new starters are lucky to play 90 minutes in the first month with us?

My concession to the obsessives is that the set pieces were poor. However, again the problem largely is that we now only have the one tactic. Aim for the big man. Hello? Even super Ray Wilkins worked out that there need to be other options/targets and different players making runs at different times. In short, greater variety. The congestion in the box at free kicks and corners is like watching a queue of buses and juggernauts caused by one of them trying to pass a van that has broken down or to overtake on a motorway. It ain't gonna happen. Goals at corners are scored by players having the space to run and jump at a fast moving target called a football not by the taker aiming to put it onto the head of the largest player wearing his teams colours. Where is the player making the early run to the near post to draw a couple of defenders away? Where is the player who ghosts in at the back? It's always the charge of the light brigade.

All in all, the reason we failed to score is only partly down to a missed penalty. It is more to do with the way we set up, our confidence and tactics.

He played a dead ball yesterday that was world class simply world class nothing less and you talk about selling him

He got swamped first half and was maybe only 40 % of himself yet nearly scored . Any team knows that if you stop our playmaker then we don't tick
They did a reasonable job yesterday yet he still looked better than any Norwich player will ever become

I don't like what your idea of football is
And the crowd at LR get to see everything you will never get that from a camera never because you don't see 11 players as a team
Adel did run into a couple of dead alleys yesterday and the simple fact was poor movement up front to feed and poor support around him

You need to see the whole game

The pen was in fact a great save
Not a bad pen

I was sitting on the corner flag in z6 as I need to be close to the away fans otherwise I don't get my bloodbuzz

I can tell everyone that Adel Taarabt cares and has this club now in his blood 6 feet away from him you can smell it, taste it as well as see it in his eyes. And it feeds us the LR faithful to say you want him sold is brave mate

You would be ripped to shreds in seconds and I could only keep the pack off you for so long were you to say this at the ground.

I have no idea what Swords QPR team would look and play like but I wouldn't watch them

I think people need to realise, myself included, that Queens and Swords are on the wind up where Taarabt is concerned.

On a serious note. That Townsend looks like a great little player. real handfull and i hope thats his normal game!

As you say at the start he was really on form & in the mood, and then he got starved of possession!
This thread really bumps up your Taarabt hater credentials, your QPR ones , not so much! :(
 
One thing I did notice yesterday, and it is something that has been prevalent all season, is the failure of real movement by our midfield and striker/s. When Adel gets the ball he often creates space for himself by his ball skills but the lack of awareness of the others in running into space is making it difficult for Adel to release a quick killer ball or even a ball that will put real pressure on the opposition. That often leaves him playing sideways which kills momentum.

I think Townsend is going to be featuring a lot more in our build up play as his pace will scare the opposition but we need bodies in the last third to take advantage...
 
I know for some of you it is hard to understand..so lets simplify it shall we..

Top top players will deliver when it needs to be done...ala giggs, scholes, gerrard, Beckham etc

average players may deliver if they are lucky...

Our star player who is too good for Barca and the best player in the Prem (apparently)..could not deliver when he was 12 yards out with nly the keeper to beat, under pressure....

So I'm wondering how long it will take before some stop worshiping the championship team that won (luckily) a ****e league. and realise that that team was actually not very good?
Sadly..too many posters think those players are untouchable but facts are most are ****e.
We are in with the big boys now & they aint good enough.
One for you to ponder..why hasnt Tarbs been bought yet...mmmmm....???...by anyone at all ???...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..?

IMO am excellent post. Totally agree.

I'd also add that wining is a habit. Look at how many games we have won under three managers over the last two years. Fook all. We have a lot of muckers and very little real quality.

He's not a world beater and I wouldn't ever make such claims.

He is a crowd pleaser and he does this repeatedly. He is the one that provides some thrust and tries to force the issue.

He is getting better, has the potential to improve beyond most players wildest dreams and is still the main contributor to goals and assists.

If we're going to compare him to players then we need to compare him to similar ones. Nani is the only other in the Prem and even he plays in a different position.

I know there's a temptation to slam him for the penalty but I wouldn't do that to any other player and won't start with him.

It is a bit churlish to judge his ability and contribution based on one spot kick when he had the balls to step up and Rooney's missed many but his class is never questioned (just his quality as a penalty taker).

Just my opinion...
 
Look how good Park seemed when surrounded by talent at Utd. Just wait and see what a player Tarbs will be when he does move to a bigger team with quality players around him.Players who will actually make intelligent runs and create space for him.

As much as I would hate to see him leave I would be fascinated to see how he would do at a 'big' club.

Indeed, I noticed that :emoticon-0114-dull: It doesn't take much to please the masses. The "oohs" and "aahs" when he danced around the ball on the halfway line made me wonder what exactly people want from our team. Reminds me of a Circus I saw on "An Idiot Abroad" recently. It was in a rural part of India and involved a Clown gesticulating in front of the crowd while a midget threw water at him.

If that's what Queens was doing then you are right. However, the simple fact of the matter is he should never have been taking it Matt. When Mackie was brought down I said to the bloke beside me "I hope they let Mackie take it because he'll bury it. Tarbs will miss it". That wasn't just a flippant remark. Taarabt hasn't got the mental capacity to take on such situations. He's not got the concentration or the focus. His mind was probably on what celebration he'd do before he even took it.

And Sir Alex Ferguson's mistake in letting a bad penalty taker take all their penalties is not something we should admire.

Taarabt was the only real creative player in our team yesterday, he makes more bad decisions than good but that is something you have to put up with.
When you hear about some of the other teams that are interested in him he cant be that bad a player
