Surely the simple answer is, there's no football so not much to post about?

This happens every summer or international break, etc. and someone always posts a "the board is dying" thread, then it kicks back into life when the footies back on.

You can claim its an off-topic board at heart, but it clearly says at the top "forums -> football -> premier league (<wah>) -> sunderland". I personally, and I'm sure many on here, come on pretty much exclusively for SAFC news and to hear people's thoughts on player performances, potential signings, etc.

No offense to anyone here, but I really couldn't give a **** about any of your love lifes, or which bar you're gonna be drinking in, or any of that ****. Maybe I feel a bit disconnected as I've lived in Norfolk pretty much my entire life so don't really know Sunderland or the area at all, but honestly, if I want to talk about personal **** like that I'd do it with my mates down the pub, not random e-strangers who I'm never gonna meet. If that makes me an "otter" or whatever you want to call me then so be it.

Also, I agree with Smug about the "cliquey" aspect of the board. Even ignoring off-topic threads as I do, I've posted a fair amount of SAFC content (almost 1000 posts I think? EDIT: **** me, over 2000, what am I doing with my life <laugh>) but it all gets largely ignored if you're not one of the "big names" on here.

I have no idea why I've bothered posting all that, no ****er will read it <laugh>

EDIT: Not having a dig at anyone here, I know some people enjoy the offtopic threads and fair play to them, crack on. I'm just tryna explain why, from my perspective, I think the board's a bit quiet at the moment.

Sorry, tried to read it but you weren't a big enough name to make it worth it.

Nah, I agree with you, although I do like the off topic stuff the main reason I'm here is football. I'm probably a bit disconnected too living in Yorkshire.

There are plenty of 'off topic' forums if that's what you like, loads where you can swear and post tits to your heart's content.

So why do some posters want to turn this board into one of those?

This is primarily a football forum and this is the SAFC board ..... there are, or perhaps, were people who wanted to discuss that subject.

It seems that subject is of little interest to some posters, who have little interest in going to matches, so they try to push the off topic stuff.

Once you get someone who decides to set the agenda then the job is screwed imo.

Tel was one of us who enjoyed a laugh.

Which seems frowned upon

I thought he had an argument and for some reason decided that he'd no longer post on here because of it.

I like the guy and he's a good poster but it's not like he was driven out because nobody has a sense of humour.

Of course not, that's a ludicrous argument.

Tel wouldn't just 'give up' because people disagreed with him ..... he had no problem dealing with anyone on the board.

There are quite a few decent posters who have stopped posting because they grew tired of the cliques and relentless bullying.

TBH, there's a question of quality and quantity.

Posting endless threads about 'what's your favourite toothpaste/soft drink/footwear/phone/car inevitably destroys a board because it swamps the place with drivel. At the end of the day, who really cares who fancies whatever latest tart in the news or prefers this lager over that?

People have stopped posting a variety of threads because they always end up exactly the same, lads hoying pretend insults at each other.

I used to post a variety of threads. Ran the prediction league, did the match threads. I did ****ing **** load for this board. But the same people following me around having digs when not even talking to them took it toll and I thought **** it. Why should I? So in most part I've ****ed this place off and now and I fight the bastards' fire with fire. I'm talking over predictions again, but purely for Pops to have rest cause he deserves it so it's just for one season, but won't be making any effort to stimulate this place. Happy for it to die out personally. There's other forums and there's my life to live. I'm in personal contact with so many people. It wouldn't bother me anymore if the place folded. Once over I'd have been gutted.

That's exactly how I feel Bri.

If the 'I'm so crazy the Mods can't live with me' brigade would stick to posting their usual shyte, on their own threads, that would be fine.

But I've started many a decent thread that's been invaded, by the likes of Comm, with the sole intention of spoiling it.

If I'd done the same and posted football comments, on one of the off topic threads. they'd have thrown their arms in the air.
