I wouldnt say Turner is slow Swamp.

Id say he is reasonably quick.

Id say we need pace in all the wide positions barring right back and up front.

Wed also need a creative midfielder if Whitts goes.

The right signings plus the further improvement in Ralls and Mason and we will be right up there.
 
We've bee found out. A lot of piddling about with the ball in defence and midfield but with no pace to make anything happen is a tactic that's been sussed. Teams just sit and watch while we bore them to death - and wait for their moment.
 
i highly doubt it taff, and i wouldnt begrudge them a wage rise, both have been excellent this season. imagine the money west ham will be paying out and how much over the hill players like faye, carew etc will be on, play offs or bust for them. that isnt the case here thankfully..
 
We need another Cohen Griffiths for pace. As fleet footed as they come, no bloody good at crossing but run all day. And what about Forest Gump ( left back went to Villa?) God guys wish I could remember his name old age and all that comes with it!! LOL:emoticon-0106-cryin

cast a look at clubs that hit the big time then the 'fans' come out and all of a sudden they want season tickets and come up with a string of excuses as to why they havnt been watching their team sweat blood to be where they are at the moment, naming no names <whistle>
 
I agree, my point was we only have 2-3 first team regulars from the riddler days (Whitts, Hudson and McNaughton) and I think they are value for money in the inflated world of footy. How many high earners other than those mentioned are still with the club?
The Malaysians are holding the purse strings and (I suspect) have given Malky a wage structure that will not be broken. I applaud them for this and all the work they are doing to secure the long term future of our club and reduce the debt levels.
Unfortunately for Malky he will struggle if he can't bring in the quality needed and will earn his money or he'll be let go. March was an abysmal month for the club in terms of the season so far. Agree with Hilts (not often that happens) March apart generally the football has been good and the players committed. I suspect Isawronny was a bit pissed off when he wrote it was the worst team he's seen.
If Malky doesn't move us forward this season it's a season of failure but all is not lost. A good base to build on, I can wait, but not too long....

We also saw Phil Stant, Jimmy Gilligan, Nathan Blake, Carl Dale, Eddie Newton, Phil Dwyer, David Giles, Alan Curtis et al - you can't write them all off. It's not just about the league position. Even in the dire times of the past I can remember sides we fielded in the lower leagues who at least tried to attack the opposition and give them something to worry about. I don't think I'm one of those 'right morons watching cardiff these days init....fickle as fk' - but I can see why they are disgruntled. Yes, we have a better squad of players (I suppose) than in many of the 80's to 90's years.
But God, are we slow and often boring or what? Hilts, as for this being 'one of the best seasons football wise I've ever watched' I simply cannot understand what you mean. A lot of it, I think, has been absolutely dire. Thank God for Whitts and the occasional burst from Joe Mason.
I can remember the bad times all too well. If you take away the League Cup, this league season's helping of footie reminds me of those times vividly: brief sparks of inspiration, spluttering out under the dampness of perspiration.

Me too. I've followed the club in the bottom league when we had gates of only 3,000. And I'd do it again if I had to. So what?
That does not mean I think we are entertaining and playing exciting football this year. We've rarely entertained or been exciting to watch in the league this season. The cup was a bonus!
Poor refereeing or not we were one level above bluddy awful on Saturday. Millwall were very poor. Did we look 30 points better than them?
 
tbh iggy if youve watched football long enough as you said it aint as easy as 30pts difference should get the win on the day......ask man utd that after being beaten by blackburn at old trafford.......form goes out of the window at this time of year and we are still in the hunt playing well or not yeah.

and yeah i also think watching our team and sticking with them in bad times is crucial and if it wasnt for me you and three thousand others then there wouldnt have been a club right <ok>.............dont get me wrong we had the boo boys then but as soon as a goal went in they fking forgot the **** they just been chucking at the players.

And we derail threads? At the end of the day, yes, we fans that have only just decided to watch us because we are in the big time, could even be that thousands got pissed off watching Cardiff fail to get there and switched sides? 1-1 I think lol.

Anyway, on topic. I think your all being a bit hasty, don't you? What's gone wrong exactly? You sacked your old manager because he failed numerous times, and you brought in a new manager. Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, but a new manager needs time to gel with his players, find their weaknesses, strong points, how your going to play etc etc. He wasn't given a big transfer budget, probably because of this reason, so he's worked with what he had (Not forgetting that prat, Dave Jones, had Bellamy, Ramsey etc etc, and he still couldn't get you promoted). MM got you to the Carling cup final, nearly winning it, and he's got you to a whisker of the play off places. So, I don't think he's done to badly really, has he.

Come the summer, he will be given some funds, he can makes the areas he feels are weak, stronger, and you can give it a big push next year (Unless of course you do go up this year).

I don't care what club you are, you can expect to put a new manager in place and expect results right away. Take Man City for example. Richest club in the world for how many years now, and what have they got to show for it?

You can't expect miracles. Give it time lads, give it time.
 
ash, the reason i ask the question where has it all gone wrong is simple, we were 4th in the table and playing some good stuff, lost very few matches, then it seems our legs have gone and we're now struggling to beat some very average teams. battling in our own half for the last 10 minutes or so to hold on to a 2-1 lead against a limited coventry team.

i am a MM fan and ridicule those who may be turning on him, i know it takes time, if we were 8th throughout the season and form was relatively constant then i'd not be asking this question. however we've gone from challenging top 2 to being an outside bet to get in to the play offs.

as for taking time, well strangely it seems the other way round, we won our first game away to west ham and went on a run where we lost very few matches, something like 3 in 25, in all competitions, yet now we seem to have a very poor patch of form, which doesnt look as if it will end before the end of the season.

the fans know that the team needs an injection of pace, as we've become too predictable and we therefore question why no players have been brought in, look how someone like miyaichi of bolton has come in and offered them something different for example..
 
I don't see anyone on here "turning on MM", just some concerns being aired. Isn't this the point of a public football forum? I know there are many on here who have stayed loyal through the dark days, and there are a few of us who can just remember our last, brief visit to the top flight. As such, don't they have the right to question what's going on at their club?
It does occur to me that there are some questions (note "questions" not adverse critisisms) regarding MM's tactical awareness and team selection. There are also questions regarding squad strengthening. These are legitimate questions when there has been such a dramatic downturn in form and results. Of course, there are probably legitimate reasons, but, we don't know them, and as paying customers, we are entitled to air our concerns.
We all want what's best for our beloved Bluebirds.......it's just that we have different, firmly held views on what that is. And for me, that's one of the beauties of being a fan of the beautiful game.

It's not a question of KTF or WTF, it's genuine concern shown by supporters who have seen both the highs and the lows.
 
We can all express our views and concerns, but if we knew all the answers, we wouldn't be discussing it here we'd be managing a premiership team ourselves.

Even the top managers aren't perfect and make mistakes / get things wrong, it's how you deal with it. The concern I had with DJ was that if things weren't going right during a game he didn't change things. We appear to have the same problem with MM at the moment at a macro level. Things aren't going right over a string of games.

We've seen MM change style and personnel through the season to good effect, largely in response to the opposition being played. Not negatively in terms of how to stop them, but positively in terms of how do we beat them. However, over the last 6-8 weeks he seems to have become totaly inflexible, sticking to the format and players that aren't getting the results.

The definition of madness is continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different outcome.

If, 4-5 games ago he totally shook things up and we continued to struggle we couldn't complain as at least he would be trying things. Why not chuck a couple of youngsters on and see how they do? Why not put Darcy at right back and Kev on the right wing? Do something that looks as if it's trying to solve the problem.

I think MM is the right man for the longer term and he is still learning as a manager. However, he does need to learn, and if it is to have an impact this season, it needs to happen quickly.

I wouldn't disagree with that and the same could be said for Liverpool with all their support and resources - in fact they are on a worse run than us.

I made a comment a few weeks ago about managing expectations. Maybe I prejudged where we are a little earlier than others who are now coming to terms with the possibility of us not making the playoffs. If we were to hit some form in the last 6 games that will be great although with Birmingham's win last night I now think only places 5 & 6 remain up for grabs and Saturday's game at Boro could well be make or break for us.

Whatever happens I'll be there for the last 3 home games and may go to Palace for the last game if we can remain in the running.
