It'll all be clearer by Monday night. Two wins and we're in, two losses and we're out!

    Fingers and toes crossed.

I still think it's good that we're whinging about 'only' being in contention for the play-offs. A couple of teams have been there or there about season after season and not made it. PNE were perenial playoffists. Where are they now? On the other hand, some have made it at the first time of asking.

I'd love us to make it to the Premiership, but would hate us to go the other way.

I hope MM has the balls to go for broke, make some changes and risk dropping a point for gaining two.

Watford fan here with a possible explanantion for your poor form. In both Malky's two seasons at Watford we had signigicantly better first halfs to each season than the second. Indeed we actually had very poor form in the second half of each of Mackays seasons and i see it is the case now he is with you. I haven't seen how you guys play this season but my theory at least when he was with us is that he always played a high tempo, attacking brand of football. that is great and works up until Feb but with us he had a small squad and that brand of football takes it toll on players physically and we were much more lacklustre in our second half of the seasons. We didn't have the biggest squad and i know you don't either so that is my theory based upon 2 years of watching his football. His high energy/tempo style cannot be maintained over 46 games with a small squad!

PS - I'm not a bitter Watford fan we have moved on since Mackay, coming up to see the game Monday, hope its a cracker! Good luck for the rest of the season after Mon.

    Good evening Chris <ok>
No bitterness detected in your post mate, so no need to worry about that. In fact, you've pretty much summed up our season with the details of your past two seasons.
Have a safe journey on Monday.

    Thanks for the observation Chris.

You guys seem to be doing very well this season, so I guess you are doing fine without Malky.

We never have really played an attacking game. There are times we have pushed the tempo up,bit I think our slump seems to be because we are trying to control the game too much. As Remote said earlier, I hope we do go for it and play far more aggressively. I would rather lose 2-1 going for it than take another 1-1 draw!

I really am trying to stay positive, it is all down to the next 2 games, i just hope its not a couple of draws, boro is a big one and we usually do ok up there, Watford are the dark horses in the play off race and are hitting good form at the right time, we are quite good at ending other teams runs, so lets hope that is the case on monday. I am sorry for bieng pessimistic earlier in the thread but i am getting a bit fed up with being the nearly guys, but i still stick to my guns about the lack of pace out wide, and we do look poor at the moment, although hard to beat.

With 6 of the 8 teams playing today having a chance at playoffs , it has the makings of a " Good Friday " or a " Friday the 13th " sort of scenario for the Bluebirds before they kick a ball on Saturday .

chris, whilst i take your point, i find it hard that its a MM thing for the teams form to collapse as the season reaches feb/march level, as he's working with new players, though his tactics of high tempo football early in the season may be taking its toll...

on a side issue, interesting that he signed an improved contract with a higher wage when things were all hunky dory, then things go wrong....start earning it please malky <wizard> we hear all about the revolutionary sport science behind performances when we're winning all the time, as a technical manager who is a student of the game, i think malky knows exactly where things are going wrong and is working on solutions...<ok>

Ahh, Swampy - if you listen very carefully, you can hear Malky's team talk for tomorrow at the Riverside.

"Right you lot up front - stick the fckin ball in their net, and you lot at the back, keep the bastards out"............<laugh>

What about the midfield Sparkey? 'You in the middle, run around lots!'

Leeds down to 10 man. Looked a bit harsh. Reading to win which will put Leeds out of the running.

Take a look at our squad... we've been punching above our weight for the majority of the season. My opinion is that we are really a mid-table team but with a bit of luck then we can push for the play-offs. We seemed to have had our game together for much of the early season and that has given us a solid footing for now. However outr failure to score goals is haunting us ... a situation that we never seemed to find ourselves in over the past 6 seasons. 2 ways to win a game... score more that the opposition or concede less (I know, I know!) - however we seem to be relying on the latter mindset and it's frustrating!
