Gosport.....a bit too close to the blue few unfortunately.

Portsmouth has always had an accent different to the rest of Hampshire.....perhaps due to the mixed population with the Royal Navy being there since Tudor times or earlier. I was always being asked if I was a Londoner.
My heart is broken.good thread this - it's dragged a few occasional posters out into the open! and will hopefully encourage them to contribute to the other threads dominated by the "well known members" who to be fair we've heard enough from! (me included)![]()

Welcome to the board Tone! There are a few of us from the Somerset/North Somerset/Bath & North East Somerset/Bristol area.
Being a Londoner it always amazes me how many people in Southampton now have a half cockney accent the same with Portsmouth but you go to Bournemouth and they all sound like farmers never understood that.
It all (apart from Bristol) used to be simply Somerset until the 1990’s when the areas around Weston Super Mare and Bath were removed from the county and given silly names. Bristol, of course, has always been both a city and a county in its own right but I included it because it’s by far the biggest place in this region! That's the most complicated area name I've ever come across.Must take a long time when anyone asks "So, where you from Chilcs?"
I did include me! (and to be fair I do talk a lot of bollocks)
