I did not like him from the first moment because of his past but he convinced me on the pitch. Anyway, we should get rid of him asap - he is just a lunatic.

The whole thing has been taken out of proportion because it's him, it really wasn't a huge deal, i'm sure if there wasn't such a meal made out of it the FA wouldn't have taken further action

It's far too easy to take the moral high ground

I read in The Independant today that it would cost us £12.5 million to sack Barton. It's a crazy immoral world sometimes.

Either that or somebody ****ed up with the terms and conditions of the contract that was offered to Mr Barton.

Just a thought guys it would have been interesting to find out what would have happened if JB had gone down after the initial attack on him by that little runt tevez, surely the linesman must have seen that or is it the case only see what we want to see, after all it was barton.

On the one hand, he's not a particularly good player, his temperament is a liability, he is a disruptive influence in the dressing room and he has brought our club into disrepute. On the other hand, er, um, er.......

Exactly this!!

I agree that he is a total liability and I would be really angry if he ever played for us again. The problem, as many posters have highlighted is:
a. He has a long-term contract at a ridiculously high wage.
b. No other team wouuld want to take on the liability of a useless, egotistic excuse for a footballer.

So how do we deal with those two problems?
There were 2,800 of us at the game, and millions more watching on TV, and we all saw a case of common assault. We have a duty as responsible citizens to report the matter to the City of Manchster Police! They will have to take action if enough of us complain, and we will kill 2 birds with one stone-getting rid of the liability and putting a criminal back in prision where he belongs!

Israel you had some genuine accurate ITK stuff on Joey last year if I remember correctly - if anything else comes through be sure to post.
I'm sure Yorkshire, our resident legal eagle ( it's a joke mate) can advise on the assault, but I think you are right. Duncan Ferguson was jailed for 3 months for an on pitch head butt. With Barton's record he could be away a long time.......

I have opted for the "sell him" route - but I know that will be virtually impossible. I hope that he either gets hauled up for a gross misconduct charge which voids his contract, or we make him train alone and out of our 25 man squad for next year. He is a violent thug who cannot control his inner self and that is just not acceptable at our club. I still think he could be arrested for the assault and with his record he could well face a custodial sentence; what a shame he cannot control himself in spite of the money we are paying him.
