<laugh> nice one mate. Btw, I haven't caught much of your team this season, are you now playing passing football then? It seems odd that a manager who has pretty much played hoofball for the entirety of his 20-year career can suddenly change at the drop of a hat? Not having a dig, just curious, if he has done it fair play to him.

For me Sam is a top manager but not fashionable to do better than Bolton, Newcastle west ham. The mags were absolute loons for hounding him out because he doesn't play the '(insert generic team) way'. Of which wham happen to be another of those clubs that make that claim. Its bollocks that.

I think it's inaccurate to say southamptons squad isn't better than ours. I think it is.

West ham are flying ten games in. Let's see where they are after 25

Yes, we have been playing some superb "real" football but of course there has been a little bit of route 1 mixed in at time, but the combination of being able to mix it up like that is incredibly powerful. If you pigeon hole yourself into just being a mindless tippy tap side you're in danger of becoming ArsenEal.

Also isn't that one of the ten commandments? "... and to Arsenal I say, thou shalt not finish higher than fourth."

Haven't read all replys. But what they are doing is spending money. Something we haven't done since Martin oneil wasted fortunes.

Simple, we're only one year into reassembling a shocking squad after years of **** ups. The mentioned teams aren't in that position. Not by a long shot. Swansea and Southampton have been years in the making and Big Sam has been backed with money, they have a more stable reputation so can attract better players at the moment.

Anybody who thinks we'll be in their position any time soon are kidding themselves. We're miles behind.

Wouldnt say Oneil wasted fortunes. Fletcher £12m and Johnson £10 still in the first team three seasons down the line. Ndayie £3m did ok for MoN but wasnt in PDC's plan.

Danny Rose was a loan deal and was fantastic

One thing I will say is that the £5m for Danny Graham was the worst bit of business in the clubs history.

What fortune was wasted?

What's missed is that sometimes sheer pot luck comes into play.

We had SKP & Quinny thrown together almost by accident.

Southampton lost their 'messiah manger' & some excellent players yet chanced upon Ronald Koeman and things incredibly improve.
Who'd have thought or planned for that, no one on here would've put a penny on it.

Rodgers walked into a good squad at Liverpool and had Suarez land in his lap.
He's now spent big on players like Balotelli and Liverpool are so poor that Henderson's started blatantly diving for penalties.

Man United spent a king's ransom, brought in a 'top manager' and it's all gone to s**t.
Now they need to spend another fortune despite a billion dollar debt.

Spurs signed the manager from Southampton, and the 'best' players, which has made them look no better than last season.
They now have 3 years playing in Milton Keynes to look forward to.

Blackpool, Birmingham, Fulham, Portsmouth etc etc etc have all had either 'billionaires' or big budgets and still f**ed it up.

West Ham looked dreadful and the natives were demanding Sam's head, like the Mags did ...... now he's having his arse kissed on MOTD.

Like I said, sometimes it's all just pot luck.

Sorry but that second goal is Mannone's fault. Buckley made a safe pass to the keeper and Mannone could have a made a simple pass or b just put his foot through it, he panicked got caught in two minds and ****ed up. 100% his fault.

I beg to differ pal. Why didn't Buckley put his foot through it? He put Vito straight under pressure, which was unnecessary. Vito could have done better, obviously - no doubt about that - but he shouldn't have been put in that position to start with.

Because he was facing goal. He played a sensible pass that Mannone had more than enough time to deal with and failed miserably.

You need to see it again marra, surely you can't maintain that view if you see it again.

Buckley took it off Brown as he sprinted back when Brown was in the best position to deal with it , not only that he got the ball got caught under his feet, so he plays a panic four yard pass to Vito onto his weaker foot. Three errors one after the other, it was entirely Buckley's fault. Not that it matters, it was calamitous yes but he worked his socks off. Buckley didn't even drop back into our defensive third again Soton, here he was tracking back and giving it 100%. I think he arrived back in the box with a bit to much pace.

Ive watched it back a few times. Its mannone's fault he ****s up and gives Sanchez a tap in. Buckley played a short pass to another Sunderland player who could and should have dealt with it.

Same as the oshea back pass against Southampton, thats not what caused that goal it was Mannone's mistake giving it straight to am opposition player to score.

I was pretty angry that daft mistakes at the back cost us again, but both were the fault of the defender ( Buckley) not Vito. **** happens.

We need a new striker, a new centre - half pairing, full back cover and midfield maverick. None of which will happen for another 2 transfer windows. Stick together and keep the faith.

Agree, but back to the difference between the clubs. IMO it's quite simple they have better players, we seem to have a nasty recurring reputation of paying over the odds for under performing players.

He's a keeper not an out field player, the ball should never have gone back to him in the first place. Buckley made three mistakes yet you say nowt, as a result Vito had to try and deal with a backpass no keeper in the world expect, mainly because it was f**ing stupid, onto his weak foot and yes he fluffed it. Nice your tunnel vision lays all the blame at Vito. You're attempts to make a scapegoat of Vito is the most pathetically constructed attempt I think I've seen. You think Vito should possess the skills of an outfield player (who are so poor they struggle when the ball is played onto their week foot too) it's a joke.

O'shea's back pass didn't even go to Vito. That's a fact, vito had to sprint to meet his opponent in the middle.

You'll attack Vito and defend the atrocious passing from our outfield players when it's their bread an butter. It's backwards. <doh>

Vito ain't perfect by a long shot but your blind defence of the outfield players in those two goals has to be some of the poorest bit of football assessment i've ever seen. Vito made mistakes by being put under unneeded pressure, if you sort the first the goalkeeper isn't put in the position to make a mistake simple.

Tried to find where you laid the blame with Brown and surprise surprise you've not even mentioned it, too busy with your pathetic vendetta. Here's an idea, support your players. That bloke has saved our skin more time than enough and doesn't deserve this.

Stick to your formations marra, it's not worth reasoning with you. You're incapable of assessing the whole situation. You reek of an agenda against Vito and it's blinkered your vision big time. imo

So because hes a goalkeeper I cant expect him to kick a football?

The oshea back pass was bad yes but Buckley's was a calm back pass that gave Mannone options, the very least he could have done was slice it clear with his left foot. He could have passed it to van aanholt he could have lumped it into the west stand with his right. Just put your foot through it mate. Own goals and gaffs dvd comes to mind. My 2 year old can connect with a ball better than Mannone did there.

Yes Buckley could have hoofed it clear but that doesnt vindicate Mannone it was his mistake that cost us the goal.

Im not making a scapegoat of him, hes been excellent mostly im just calling a spade a spade

If it hadnt been deep into injury time i dont think Buckley would have contemplated passing it back to the keeper, he would have booted it anywhere (except for into his own goal i would hope!!!!) Passing it back to the keeper was a calculated risk in the hope that we could punt the ball straight back down their end and create a last gasp chance! I think Mannone's mistake was that he was thinking of where to boot the ball before he had it under any sort of control. If it hadnt been the last minute i think Mannone would have calmly booted it anywhere also! The timing of the incident help create it, it wouldnt have happened even if there was 10 minutes left. Both to blame for me though! Dangerous backpass and dodgy goalkeeping. Goalkeepers have to act like sweepers alot of the time so he should have been capable of dealing with it but it could have happened to any keeper!

Brown's mistake was just as bad and id leave him out against Palace if Revelleire looks upto anything.

I dont have any vendetta against Mannone, on the whole he's been excellent. I just think he needs taking out of the team for his sake, he looked a broken man at ft aand if he plays against Palace it will be to everyones detriment as they'll target him.

I never mentioned Mannone for the first goal and don't blame him per se but he could have done better. Make yourself big and make a forward put it in a corner where he might just put it wide or over. He just dropped and made it easy for Sanchez.

To be fair mate, I sort of agree with you.

Having said that, he looked a broken man at Man City, when he thought he'd relegated us, but was magnificent for the rest of the reason.

He did not look a broken man, he was up on his feet straight away and quite rightly blasting Buckley for the stupidity of the pass(persuming you're talking about after the second goal. I don't know what ft means apart from feet). Typical the first goal is now his fault too. f**ing joke. <doh> He could of done better <doh>
