Disagree - Coutinho's best performances last season came against the likes of Everton and Arsenal. Not disputing that the lad is inconsistent, but statisically, he's our most creative player and creator of clear cut chances which is what we're lacking. This is the fundamental reason for why I think he should be playing but also, our team has seen a lot of change and it;s evident that the style of play (particularly in the final 3rd) has regressed. As soon as Coutinho comes on, he gets into the space, DEMANDS the ball, works the triangles, movement. We need familiarity in our first team to avoid further disruptions. His best position is as the number 8 - one of the two midfielders in front of Gerrard. Sterling should always be used as the number 10 - it's such a waste of his ability if he is restricted to the wing.
Carra is speaking out of his @rse when he says Migs hasn't made any big saves. Victor Valdes much needed competition but only for the short term. We need a youngish keeper who is commanding and physical - Kevin Trapp is a great option from Germany.
We also need a great goalkeeping coach - Mignolet doesn't seem to be improving. He does some things very well but he needs coaching in positioning as that isn't improving at all.
he's only made a few. he made one but palm it out dangerous recent that i was surprised about. i deffo think we need a better keeping coaching set up
The ideal goal keeper is the one that is consistent and reliable. He would be a good shot stopper, and would come out and catch the ball reliably especially at set pieces and corners, wouldn't be physically bullied, would be well placed to stop the well placed free kicks, would start the attack, would be good with his feet to distribute passes, and would be good even when he is not called in action for 85 minutes yet make that crucial one match winning save when needed. OK. I have described that GK who is world class and who will cost tens of millions to get. Mignolet is not perfect but how far is he from being the very best? he is probably in the top ten best GKs in the premiership.
Migs has proven he can be a good keeper. He was when he joined us. Maybe it's down to coaching- but he has slowly got worse over the seasons. Same happened with Reina. Why do we turn good keepers slowly worse? I think Migs has the potential to be good again- maybe Valdes can teach him some tips n' tricks- be a player/coach as he provides competition for spaces?
so he should be considering we are in the cl, but that's the problem, he should be top 5 keeper at least in the prem, i know rival fans will jump on this but i dont give a ****, we finished 2nd last season, and you to say he is probably in the top 10 in the prem says it all for me.
I said the other day that back in the day the thinking was, great teams had a great keeper and great CF - just look at the teams who do well to see if it still applies!
i would say concentration bravery consistency accuracy of passing active - on your toes, moving outwards ever ready organiser in short and controversial i don't give a bollox if a keeper can catch under pressure or punches but that he is proactive and moves fast hugo lloris for me is the best example in the prem. but mingolet cot quite a bit... a hack defender cost 10mil these days. mingolet is average at best and i'm done with his crap... he can't kick for **** and is rooted to his line... he's a shot stopper at best
chelsea have a top young un and a top old un. city have a guy who is getting stick but is quite good utd have a top one. arsenal have a good but inconsistent on who falls short but is much better than mingolet everton have a good un. spurs have a top top keeper in short every rial we have has a better keeper than us. souhampton have forester whos decent too.
Getting a top GK is a matter of luck. People focus too much on their age. Reina for me was a great GK and I am not sure why he was discarded so early. He was making a few mistakes but then everyone was low in confidence at the time and Rodgers was hardly doing well himself. Are we all saying that Mignolet is 100% better than Reina? United got lucky with Van der Saar. But they had tried upteen number of GKs after the Dane. Reina was a good un - a top 3 for me - and now we would have to try many to get another like him.
erm.... no its not.. its a matter of scouting. rafa did pick reina out of his behind. and same goes for the others. top clubs rarely develop one like hart. they get them go often to play elsewhere. its taken 3 years ? for courtois on loan? i'm sorry but yes utd got lucky he was sat there at fulham but vds was well established at a euro cup winner sitting at a **** clu for god knows why. it was sensible. if lfc gave spurs 20mil for lloris i'd call it a bargain until the cows come home. you buy an average one you'll know it. no question to me

Gks last much longer than outfield players. What about peter Cech? he has been discarded by Chelsea. I think Courtois is better than him. but may be he could do a job for us? Spurs would be stupid to let Lloris go for any price. They can only replace him with someone inferior.
P Completely agree with Lloris, for me he is the best keeper in the league. Top five for me is: Lloris Cech (I know he doesn't start, but for me he is still second best) Howard De Gea Courtois (Based mainly on his times at Atletico, he's been solid at Chelsea though)
Gary Neville makes it al even worse for Mignolet here. He points out a floor in his technique that I dont think we've even discussed and he is spot on.
Goalkeepers aside people are forgetting routine. Rodgers is struggling with preparing his side for a a game every other day. I read his interview where he said they let the faster players rest for 2 days before they rejoin the squad. This is easier when you have a week to prepare. He is now being faced with trying to integrate new players as well as coming up with a training regime that requires seamless changes without affecting the balance of the team. It would have been much simpler if he had all his players from last season fit. This season is all about Rodgers learning how to manage a top four squad followed by ensuring we qualify again. It took Rodgers half a season to figure out how to play the premier League and am confident given time he will mould the side where all players will transmit his ideas better.
