Darts....you stand 8 foot from the target (please correct that if it's incorrect) and you get three goes per turn, you very rarely see the centre of the target hit, even after all those goes. There are NO exterior influences effecting the flight of a dart. There is no depth of history in this game that qualifies it for the Olympics. It's a pub game same as skittles. No wars have been won using this game! You cannot hunt or catch food using the equipment. Anyone can pick up a dart and throw it at the board. It does not require special skill or strength.

Archery.....You stand anything from 20metres to 30 metres away from the target(same as above) you fire one arrow in sequence with your opponent AND you try to hit the centre of the target, which happens very frequently, the arrow can be effected by the prevailing weather conditions. Archery is embedded in the history of our country, wars have been won by using this skill. Plus if required you can use this skill and equipment to hunt and catch food! You need to train for a long time to use a longbow, you cannot just pick one up and use it effectively, it requires massive strength to pull back the cord and flex the bow.
Would you like me to carry on, bearing in mind I am supposed to be working.

Darts - you actually have to hit different parts of the board at different times, not just aim for the 'centre' all the time. Using only you hand eye coordination to aim. professionals often have to play under stage lighting which could be in temperatures over 100 in which to do this. also while doing this, working out the maths to make sure you can complete the game!

Archery - Only have to hit one part of the target (i.e. doesn't have to aim for different segments). plus have equipment which has aiming assistance attached.

would you like me to carry on?

What the **** has winning wars got to do with it? And don't you think the fact archers use state of the art equipment that costs an absolute fortune and includes microscopic sights that surely make the task a lot easier than darts.

Ah well, I'll just add this to the collection of threads that highlight just how WRONG you are - it's turning into quite a collection by now as well I can tell you <ok>

Course parents are role models, but if a kid is aspiring to be a footballer than they will look at footballers as role models as well. Don't understand that comment.

We hear all the time about role models letting down the younger generation by their behaviour. I credit kids with having enough intelligence to reason about what is wrong and what is right. Kids aspire to be professional footballers because they are good at it and want to prove it initially. I don't think the though of 250K a week interests lads in the Under 12's.
Don't get me wrong, I think Bellamy is a prize prat and Giggs is obviously a well seasoned liar. But didn't Beckham have a little dalliance? Rebecca Loos? No-ones squeaky clean and cupboards are full of skeletons.

Darts players have been banned from drinking alcohol during games for nearly 30 years I believe!

I shan't put my own views into this, but I will say there is a thread over on the Swans forum which some of the more... combative of you may be interested in. It's called TeamGB update, and it is now basically a Welsh Nationalist breeding ground, within the setting of the Olympics.

I only wanted to talk to them about football!

Also, I was never good enough to play for a club, but as I'm only 20 massive wages were coming in when I was that age. I can confirm that we all wanted to be paid as much as Ljungberg/Ginola/Viera/Ronaldo (the fat one) etc., as well as wanting to prove ourselves!

Yeah your right about Beckham to be fair and his fling, I don't remember it too well as I was about 10 when that came out. So it probably proves your right in that sense as I was not a bad footballer than and definitely what I wanted to do. I see your point now.

I think the problem sometimes though is there seems to be a storm whenever negative things come out about successful footballers.

Take Drogba for instance been getting a lot of stick for going to China because it's about money, which is probably is but he does wonders. Building hospitals for sick children in Africa and he has Didier Drogba foundation. So in a way it's more money for that as well. Went off topic but fair point about how footballers are perceived. Beckham for one has done no end of good things too.

Probably not, but soemtimes I get the feeling you should <ok>

I guess you already beat me to it.
Why are you so aggressive Sid, it started out as a light hearted thread with valid opinions on both sides. But you've just got to drag it down. You obviously don't like me or the things I write, but I have the same rights as you to post on here whatever I like. I would like you to show me one of your threads where I've come onto it an ****ed and blinded at you just for not agreeing with you. As I said in a previous thread, some people on here don't have the social skills or intelligence to produce a counter argument without swearing and threatening people, I put YOU in that category!
I awaiting your considered response.

<doh> the shouting of the scores is for the benefit of the audience. the quick arithmetic darts players can do when finishing is astounding

Sorry but when the darts athletes look down and to their left the scores are shown on a digital board. <doh>
And why do some of them have to ask the bloke in the bow tie what the double out is?
Are you really impressed that a grown adult can do basic subtraction without help. Blimey!!!!
