Theres an interview with Phil Hay where Radz apologises because Orta was following a very inexperienced football club owner. Think it was a YEP interview. Also heard Kinnear on the Square Ball and Phil Hay show saying the same thing about Orta. Also a long interview Orta gave to Phil Hay Show last year when Hay was in hospital but the square ball boys did it and Orta said the same. He was given so much cash and told to buy bulk… what came out of these interviews was a view held by everyone on the board that Irta has a success rate better than most. Average success rate is 30%? Its also agreed that he has one of the biggest databases in football. Orta has an archive of everything for example if someone wants a big left footed holding midfielder who has a certain passing ability, but can hold up the ball or a shorter version he categorises players who play in the same position and by value and potential value…. , but I get that quite a few on here think hes crap thats why I said everyone who counts thinks the opposite
Only two words from me fatkev.. Firpoo. I make that 32 million but i can't count.

Most people who count think Orta has done a great job and is doing a great job. Yes we have a few on here who reckon hes pants, but look at the recent signings as it seems every one of them is a decent signing. Jury out on sinisterra yet, but looking good. Marsch involved especially in ghe players like Aaronson, Kristensen and Adams but Orta found him the others based upon the criteria he was given. At the start of his job he was given a few quid and told to buy as many players as possible for the dosh. Most were pants, some were decent and Radz apologised because Orta can only do what he is told to do and with the cash budget. Not done a bad job since in reality although Rodrigo Firpo need to prove themselves still. And Rodrigo seems to be so far. Evryone has an opinion but to be fair Rich you are not a happy camper of late and see crappyness everywhere
I can count 1 and 1 is 2, 2 and 2 is 4:biggrin:

I think many posters forget where we’ve been the last 20 yrs. I think we are still punching above our weight against many teams we are grouped with. Possibly the only ones doing better imo are Brighton and Brentford. We are a potential biggish club in the making, but with no European football/massive wages/recent history to sell to marquee signings, it’s not gonna happen. Neither is European football in the next 5-6 yrs (minimum). With that in mind I think VO has one hand tied behind his back. For that reason, I believe he’s done ok.

Think the DOF is a sensible position to have, and it might be more productive in the coming years once we are more established in the PL. As a fan for nearly 60 yrs, it hurts to acknowledge the reality of our current position, but hey it’d been miles worse without the seasons last match heroic’s at Brentford.
I remember 50 years..not a patch on Leeds60 or WC granted:1980_boogie_down:

Fair enough mate. There’s definitely an interview where radz is implying the buck was with orta. He was the one with the background in football and radz was an inexperienced owner who relied on him. So who’s responsibility is it? It was clearly orta’s call… he was just rinse and repeating the Sevilla model. If it wasn’t his call he should have been pointing out the dangers of it.
As for them defending him publically… what do you expect?

To me Orta messed up badly that first year on a number of levels. For me he’s redeemed himself with first bielsa and his record has improved on signings. All DOFs are hit and miss on signings and he has been middling in my view, but improving. I’m happy with the summer so far… especially if we get a left back and striker.

Most worrying thing for me in the first 2 weeks of the season is that all the ‘relegation favourites’ have points on the board. I was Hoping to see some clear strugglers early doors ready to be cast adrift!
I get what you're saying, but isn't it marvellous to look at the league table & see scum, Everton & Wet Sham all propping up the table? <laugh>

It's not an illusion, btw - I've checked at least 100 times! :smiley-finger007:

I think we have some clear strugglers, but maybe not the ones the ITK pundits forecast.
Note to self , do not look at the table whilst drinking you’ll spill most due to laughter.
MOT.

it would be too much to ask wouldn’t it, but it’s important to live in the moment and at the moment that table is indeed a thing of rare comedy value<cheers>

Looking at the table and doing 2Ps annual points per game average, it seems obvious to me that at an average of 2 points per game we will be playing RB Salzburg in the first round of the Europa <laugh> No not getting ahead of myself honest
