Orta needs to earn his corn or actually buy someone that's going to hit the ground running. I've been impressed so far this season with the players in, although it seems Jesse has had a massive say in it
Brereton-Diaz name still keeps cropping up and in the last year of his contract. Chile International and only 23 so fits the criteria as well as able to play midfield, wing or as a 9. Would still love to get Pulisic though as he will hardly play this season in Chelseas new team
If we can’t afford Watkins wages forget Pulisic he isn’t going to drop from his £150k a week
Lots of pluses again yesterday but two things annoyed me. Firstly seeing no Joffy on the bench and subsequently Bamford going off injured and finding out after that Bamford had a niggle all week but wanted to play and Joffy had a dead leg again. Surely its now obvious we need a striker

When we won promotion Bielsa added 4 top U23s plus Rodrigo, Llorente and Koch and kept the vast majority of the championship winning team. Cooper at Forest has retained just 3 of the lads who won promotion for him and added a whole new team. Will the Cooper way ensure survival or did we do right by our players and give them a chance at playing in the prem?
Not a question directly aimed at you but to everyone in general. Should Orta and Radz have given Bielsa total freedom in the transfer market?
Should they be giving that same freedom to Marsch?
Surely a director of footballs job is to ensure steady progress? You employ coaches who all play similar so the players they have fit straight in.
We seem stuck somewhere in the middle, Orta total control of signing the U21s and Bielsa and Marsch the first team
I think our formula worked in the Championship but in the PL I fear our board are a bit like rabbits in headlights.
If we want the coach to be an old fashioned manager who controls the ins and outs fine but where does that leave Orta
Most people who count think Orta has done a great job and is doing a great job. Yes we have a few on here who reckon hes pants, but look at the recent signings as it seems every one of them is a decent signing. Jury out on sinisterra yet, but looking good. Marsch involved especially in ghe players like Aaronson, Kristensen and Adams but Orta found him the others based upon the criteria he was given. At the start of his job he was given a few quid and told to buy as many players as possible for the dosh. Most were pants, some were decent and Radz apologised because Orta can only do what he is told to do and with the cash budget. Not done a bad job since in reality although Rodrigo Firpo need to prove themselves still. And Rodrigo seems to be so far. Evryone has an opinion but to be fair Rich you are not a happy camper of late and see crappyness everywhere
heard you say this before doc, but personally don’t remember radz apologising to orta - I recall an interview where he said we got it wrong that first year... but the implication was very much that orta got it wrong as he was the experienced football guy…. Happy to be proved wrong.
On the sentiment of the role of the DOF… I’m fine with orta’s role currently … setting the criteria for type of player/profile and liaising with manager. This year is a good example… some signings clearly Jesse’s recommendations, some clearly vic’s. Be interesting to see which prove better over time.
I think many posters forget where we’ve been the last 20 yrs. I think we are still punching above our weight against many teams we are grouped with. Possibly the only ones doing better imo are Brighton and Brentford. We are a potential biggish club in the making, but with no European football/massive wages/recent history to sell to marquee signings, it’s not gonna happen. Neither is European football in the next 5-6 yrs (minimum). With that in mind I think VO has one hand tied behind his back. For that reason, I believe he’s done ok.
Think the DOF is a sensible position to have, and it might be more productive in the coming years once we are more established in the PL. As a fan for nearly 60 yrs, it hurts to acknowledge the reality of our current position, but hey it’d been miles worse without the seasons last match heroic’s at Brentford.

It was a question, not an opinion. Should the coaches be given such a free reign on signings?

My opinion on your statement that Orta is doing a great job… We’ve signed mainly Marsch requests, he’s not had a lot of work to do. We’ve been woefully short of midfielders for two seasons, Augustin is the only first team striker we’ve signed in three seasons. CDK I’m not interested in joining you, Orta okay I’ll spend a month trying to persuade you as I’ve no plan B

Theres an interview with Phil Hay where Radz apologises because Orta was following a very inexperienced football club owner. Think it was a YEP interview. Also heard Kinnear on the Square Ball and Phil Hay show saying the same thing about Orta. Also a long interview Orta gave to Phil Hay Show last year when Hay was in hospital but the square ball boys did it and Orta said the same. He was given so much cash and told to buy bulk… what came out of these interviews was a view held by everyone on the board that Irta has a success rate better than most. Average success rate is 30%? Its also agreed that he has one of the biggest databases in football. Orta has an archive of everything for example if someone wants a big left footed holding midfielder who has a certain passing ability, but can hold up the ball or a shorter version he categorises players who play in the same position and by value and potential value…. , but I get that quite a few on here think hes crap thats why I said everyone who counts thinks the opposite

He didnt say he refused to come to Leeds he was 50/50 because he knew that Milan wanted him and if Milan could find the cash he would prefer to go their. For weeks his own club told him there is only one offer on the table and he said ok I go to Leeds unless Milan can do it. So a different perspective mate. Radz actually said he was confident of getting the deal done but when Milan found the cash he said he wished he had gone over himself a couple of weeks earlier to convince him to sign.
