I find most pundits dull as dishwater, especially the likes of Shearer, Hanson, Lineker, Crooks Lawrenson etc. I can't comment on the new sky lot, as I no longer watch it, haven't done for years.
There are only a couple I enjoy, Ian Wright for one, can't beat his passion and enthusiasm, I also like McCoist, adds a bit of humour to proceedings.
I totally agree that it should be the best man for the job but it never seemed to be the case, even before today's agenda's, jobs for the boys, as the BBC constantly give.
Agree with Emu, watching the old pros, it was like being part of dressing room banter, lads down the pub, taking the piss, Kammy cocking things up and taking the piss out of himself. Non of them natural broadcasters but it mostly worked because they didn't take themselves seriously
It does seem now that the majority of things are done to appease the minority of the people though.
