Flaming Spear is flying @ home, and yard expect to go very close tomorrow in the Royal Hunt Cup, 25/1

Eirene also expected to get at least a place in the 5 35 20/1

Hopefully land a nice double for us

Would strongly recommend having a bit on an e/w double on Flaming Spear + Librisa Breeze (diamond jubilee sat), yard confidence behind LB is insane, i'm not going mad as it's racing, and winstons on board both, but they really feel confident, e/w double just for the places basically works out at 14/1

Surely they both prefer give in the ground?

I was hoping for a "Coronation Stakes divi" in Cracksman's price, but that doesn't seem to have materialised. Not unless you take the view that, without that less than totally convincing display, he'd be 4/11 today, which case 8/13 still represents value.

Anyway, he's impossible to oppose for me, but if I did take him on it would be with Hawkbill who like the fav clearly didn't act at Epsom last time.

Cracksman is probably a better odds on shot than will be on offer in any of today's football matches, so I'm tempted. What is for certain is that anyone who took some of the 3/1 for this race that was available immediately after Epsom is in a good place now.

If you do not win on the Tuesday at Royal Ascot, it is probably best to avoid most of the rest of the week. Is it possible that Ballydoyle will go winless this week?

I won’t touch the juvenile races. In the Queen’s Vase I cannot be having my St Leger pick Kew Gardens, and after three Dettori/Gosden winners on the opening day, I expect the favourite to end up being Stream Of Stars.

On the quick ground, I definitely would not put the mortgage on Cracksman after he barely beat a horse that has never won a pattern race last time. I will not be looking for one to beat him in this race as his four main rivals all have negatives. I am abandoning Expert Eye in the Jersey Stakes from a betting point of view so he will bolt up!

In the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, I think that Hydrangea is very short for a filly who is clearly best on easy ground and has to give a Group 1 penalty away to all bar one of her opponents. ALJAZZI was beaten less than a length in this last year by Qemah and the five pounds she receives from the favourite might be enough to see her go one better.

    3:05 Ascot - Southern France

(Find Queen's Vase particularly difficult this year, so will take a chance with this possible improver from Aidan O'Brien's giant stable. Breeding on sire's side fine, but dam's side looked worrisome until I noticed that grandma's (Balbonella) sire was Gay Mecene whose 'average winning distance of progeny' figure reads 14.7f. So, a modest bet at SP, will wait to see what opening odds indications are and back e/w if feasible, say 7/1 or more (which I certainly should have done yesterday!). Wish you all the best of luck today with your wagers! <ok>).

Fahey may have one of his usual in the opener, Kodyanna, so I've had a little go there, which gives me a free bet in the 5.00, where I think Hors de Combat might do well at a price.

Away from Ascot, the excellently named Party Fears Too races in the 3.20 at Hamilton; got to chuck some change that way.

Have a good day all, I've got workies in doing the damp proofing in my extension.
    Indeed.

Flaming Spear 25/1 with Fred 1/4 odds 1-2-3-4-5, or 22/1 with Paddy if you want 1/5 odds 1-2-3-4-5-6.

As rudebwoy suggested, we have got to be worried about the drying ground. They took it (and Librisa Breeze) out at Newbury because it was too quick.

Usually follow Chelsea especially when it's an Ivory horse but I am going to oppose with Firmament - will also combine it in an e/w patent with Eirene and Librisa Breeze

Billy McKenzie was a troubled soul, who I was friendly with through our whippets. He could talk for hours about his dogs (so can I lol) But genius has it's pitfalls, and sadly he couldn't find a way out.
