For me it's another fresh start without Dean Smith, Webber & Pukki. I'm optimistic that we'll come back without the baggage from the last 2 seasons with a new look side of experienced guys & young talent. Wagner deserves to be judged on a new season without the toxic Webber & Smith stinking up the place & I'm certain Carrow Road will give him & the team their full support. Months without a win or goal at home was hard to take
Webber hasn't "resigned". He has given notice of his intention to leave his position as Sporting Director on completion of his contractual period of notice. This whole process is proceeding in accordance with his contract, which strongly suggests it is exactly as those who run the Club intended. Why else would they have entered into the contract?
What was that Robbie ? Was it "Yes guys you were totally right about Smith he's a clown & without Handley & McLean we were utterly ****e" Nope, you are never wrong about anything ever
Whether we call this a resignation or not totally ignores the point I was making: Webber is leaving the club but is still making key decisions which will affect the club for years to come and, most importantly, tie the hands of his successor, at least for the immediate season ahead. He can do this while jumping ship at any point he wishes when an offer comes along. I don't see how this can be to the benefit of the club. You are probably right that 'it is exactly as those who run the Club intended', which is why my annoyance goes beyond Webber to the club hierarchy. I have never, ever been a Delia-outer, or even anywhere remotely close to it, but after these last two seasons, I want her gone. The way so much power has been handed to this arrogant wannabe, even at the cost of alienating many of the fans and the local media in what is supposed to be a 'family club' that represents the region, and seemingly without any of the normal checks and balances that exist in a well-run club, is incompetent and a dereliction of duty. We are desperate for a totally new beginning. And now we have more chaos and confusion and probably conflict instead, just a few weeks before training starts for next season. It's a shambles.
I think you are thinking with your heart rather than your head. Your comments suggest that you believe Webber is working to his own agenda rather than an agreed club one. You also say that we need a totally new beginning, which I very much doubt is the clubs view. Webber's role is to implement the clubs agreed agenda across the club, not his personal agenda and a totally new beginning is the polar opposite of what we need. We should be building on Webber's legacy by trying to continue to get right the things he got right and look to improve in the areas where we didn't make the improvements everyone was trying to make. Your comments about us not being a family / community clubs are to put it crudely just b0110cks. Indeed an argument could be made that the clubs desire and the efforts it puts into being a family / community clubs is holding it back in other areas. There are plenty of clubs both bigger and smaller than us that would sell their soul to have the experience Norwich fans have had on Webber's watch. Webber won't be out of work for long and plenty of clubs would love to have his signature. When he finally walks out the door for the last time, he will leave knowing that he leaves the club in a much better place than when he arrived, anyone who suggests otherwise really doesn't have a clue about how professional clubs are run.
You are probably right that I am thinking with my heart and letting my personal dislike of Webber colour my thinking, and I agree with what you say about his future employability. But neither you nor Robbie have addressed my key point, which is that no one should be able to announce that they are leaving at some unknown point over the following year and then be allowed to make key decisions which will effectively tie the hands of his successor. I don't see how anyone of talent will be attracted to the post if they are merely overseeing a fait accompli in terms of manager, players and playing style for the season ahead. If someone is appointed, there is also the potential confusion of who is in charge, although I imagine and hope that Webber would leave very quickly in this situation. My overall feeling is that if Webber is sticking around until it suits him to leave (and let's be honest, if he gets a good offer, he'll be out of here in a flash), we should have offered the job temporarily to Adams, who I think would accept this role until we found someone else for 24-25 and the long-term future.
I'm pretty sure after the pre season friendlies & we get to see who's fit & fighting for positions, a couple of wins & goals going in & spirits will be lifted. It's essential to get Carrow Road pumping again as the faithful have been suffering for 3 years basically.
Not never, only occasionally God, my heart bleeds at the thought of all this "suffering". Now I'm wondering why Action Aid haven't written asking for donations to help alleviate it .........
As I understand it Webber signed a contract with the club, that contact has an end date. I suspect, but I don't know, that the contract contains a clause requiring both parties to let the other party know whether or not it is their intention to renew the contract, most people who are employed have this in the form of a notice period. I don't believe he has told the club that he is leaving at some unknown point in the future, my understanding is that he has informed the club that he doesn't intend to extend his current contract or sign a new contract. I suspect the club / Webber have decided to announce this and try and control the narrative rather than let it come out in an uncontrolled manner. Once Webber starts looking for a new role and the club start the recruitment process for his replacement the story would have come out anyway. I can just imagine the uproar from so call fans if the club had known he was leaving and didn't let anyone know. All people that start a new job that has been fulfilled by someone in the past inherit the previous incumbents decisions. When we recruit a new Director of football we won't be employing someone who is responsible for starting again, we will be looking to recruit someone who we think can build on the successes of the past and make improvements in the areas where we have fallen short. I would hope that as part of the recruitment process, any applicant would be asked to present to whoever has the ultimate responsibility for deciding who replaces Webber, be it an individual or group of people, their vision for taking the club forward. At the risk of repeating myself any director of football is responsible for delivering the clubs vision not necessarily their's. Whilst there is no doubt Webber has made mistakes in the past, indeed unlike a lot of people he acknowledges he has made mistakes. I don't believe he has ever deliberately harmed the club with his decisions and whilst I doubt he has got every decision he's made right and whilst I haven't agreed with every decision he's made, I have no doubt that his decisions have always been well thought through and made with good intention. I very much doubt that any of the decisions he has made have not been made on a range of data and opinions other than his own. From what I've seen he's big on data and working in collaboration with others at the club. Anyway it's not all about Webber the club could have put him on gardening leave if they wished, however I suspect they were delighted that he stayed on until a successor is found / the end of his contract. When replacing anyone, unless there are issues with the person leaving it is always better to have a hand over period. This is what successful and well run businesses and clubs should be striving for. Anyway who's to say his successor isn't already known and working in collaboration with him as I write !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop talking so much sense CC! We want him out of our club today, leave the ship rudderless for all I care or grab the first person we can find, just get him gone, that will be far better than the past 6 disastrous years of calamitous rubbish we have had to endure
If you turned up at Carrow Road hoping to see a goal over the last few months you would probably feel some empathy for the "fans".
As far as Webber is concerned, it's quite honorable these days to serve your notice on a contract & he would probably lose money if he breached it , plus his Mrs still works there. I'm hoping/guessing that we'll get an American sporting director from the rounders franchise chap.
