I would like to ask the question of whether supports should wear team colours at games or not.

I am in favour of a free society, and this should be down to personal taste or preference, but not wearing colours does lead to a visual confusion.

At Millwall last Saturday (why does it seem so long ago?) I proudly wore team shirt, hat and scarf, I know a bit over kill, but if your going to support a team do it in style, anyway looking at my own supporters I was initially concerned I was in the wrong section, so few colours on display. I know that this was probably common sense seeing as where we were, but you have to take the rough with the smooth when supporting a team. Saying that I did rather upset a Millwall fan wearing a white t-shirt of being a week early for the Leeds game. See my point! Even at St Mary's there are far too many blue coloured tops on display- hense visual confusion?

What I mean is my dad was a Geordie, me being first generation red&white southern, but he obviously wanted to keep the black&white in the family so took me to a few games at St James Pk and they almost to a man they wear colours and it makes an impression hense why I am so pro.

Anyway what's the consensus? I want more colour- as long as that is red, white or preferably both
 
Don't mind. Generally I wear colours everywhere in the form of a scarf, but usually don't wear my Saints top unless i'm doing something sporty like 5aside or gym...
 
Away games are a different matter for colours and certainly Millwall fits into a group of games where it could just ask for problems outside of the ground.
I stopped wearing colours to away games a few years ago when I started to going to quite a few on my own and just couldn't be bothered with attracting attention etc
 
i don't wear a saints top to games as i don't own one, it is a bit of a waste of money tbh
 
I walk around naked 24/7 as I'm a nudist. Saves on washing machine tablets and on clothes.

Being serious, I wear my colours both home and away.
 
I would say that our home and certainly away support has 'toughened up' a bit over the last 2/3 seasons so that is definatley a reason but there are various factors such as weather and the opposition. I don't really wear my colours that often mainly in the summer but usually take my red and White scarf to the away games.
 
I don't think supporters should follow a set dress code.

Personally I think it's good to see people in red and white or yellow and blue but if they don't want to that's totally fine by me.

I wear my colours to every game I attend but totally understand if some don't want to!

The end of the day it doesn't make you any more of a fan than anyone else.

The most important thing is that our ticket money is going in the same pot and right now we are getting our monies worth.
 
I don't wear it away from home just cause it's easier... Not worth walking around Millwall in a Saints shirt just for the sake of fitting in with the colour scheme! Doesn't bother me what people choose to wear though, I don't wear my Saints shirt to every game but it doesn't bother me if people do.
 
Always wear my colours...just cover them up on the way in to the away end.Always looks good when the whole end are in the same colours...was at the two Ireland Estonia playoff games and it was a sea of green for both,looked class imo. I actually noticed the lack of jerseys in Millwall but just put it down to the type of fixture it is
 
I really do not think it should be "compulsory" to wear Saints colours to any match, Home or away. I don't have a shirt, although I do have a jacket scarf and woolly hat. Which I wear where ever. Any of which would identify me as a Saints fan. However I am big enough and ugly enough to look after myself should the need arise. However when I am with the grand children the youngest of whom is just eight the last thing you want is to be involved with any altercation no matter who starts it at any football match. The same can be said when I used to go to matches with my Daughters and later my grand daughters. So I think you tend to err on the side of caution when you are accompanying your young family to away matches. When I was younger yes I would wear them anywhere and any when. I didn't go looking for trouble and did my best to stay out of it. I only had myself to worry about so it was fairly easy. As you get older though with responsibilities, you tend to mellow a bit and be a bit more cautious......
 
I always wear my colours and my red Saints jacket at home. (How many black/dark coloured jackets do you see in winter-time, I think they should sell more red ones!) If I go away, it depends where I'm going. Mostly I would wear my colours but if I went to Pompey, Millwall etc I probably would wear a jacket over my shirt.

I used to go out with a QPR fan who had 3 shirts - one which was his own size to wear during the warmer months, one a little bit bigger to wear over a jumper during the autumn months and one about 3 sizes bigger to wear over his winter coat so you could still see his colours!
 
When I was a young man you wore a football shirt to play football and if you wore the shirt of a famous club you were viewed as a little strange like a sort of hanger on. If you wore your team colours it was usually just a scarf or maybe a bobble hat both of which would have been knitted for you by any one or more of your mum/nan/sister/wife/aunty. They even knitted my school jumpers.

Commercialism wasn't so rife in those days.

The only time I have worn a Saints shirt to a game was the one I bought especially to wear for the Cardiff Cup Final against Arsenal and it has been in the draw ever since.
 
Wearing coulors has nothing to do with supporting the team vocally supporting them is all that matters. Of course in special occasions such as wembley wearing the colours can have a great effect but really the only people who need to wear the shirt are the 11 in the middle, I dont need to wear a shirt to prove I support the team.
 
Nice to get a response, and yes, it is up to each supporter to decide what to wear, but when the team need our support they hear with their ears, but see with their eyes. We are the twelfth member of the team!

Wore it to wembley but otherwise it is used only for playing football, rather than watching. Don't know why. Nothing to do with 'attracting attention from away fans' just more of habit/routine.
 
I don't mind at all what people wear. I often wear my shirt/scarf. The people that seem to have some sort of mental breakdown on forums (not on here) as to what people they don't know wear to a game are pathetic. Who cares what they wear?

I don't go to watch Saints to concern myself with what other people are doing because, quite frankly, I don't give a toss. I'm there to watch my team perform, like many.

So you're quite happy if there's a good team performance and no atmosphere from your fellow supporters, then? Personally, I feel gutted when that happens.
 
I think the more Red and White or Yellow and Blue on show the better but totally understand people not wanting to wear football shirts etc.
I lost a bet to some Man U mates of mine in Devon and had to go to Alex Ferguson's testimonial with them.
So in protest i wore my Saints shirt under my top, which made me feel less dirty but when my mates decided to pull my top off in the Trafford pub before the game with the pub in full song i felt a little vulnerable.
