London's like any other major city, some good bits, some bad, it's just on a much larger scale than everywhere else in the country.

I lived in Clapham and I loved it, there were half a dozen restaurants in walking distance that were better than anything round here, Clapham Common was great for hanging out in the summer and I often walked to the Kings Road to go shopping.

In contrast, I lived in Wembley and it was a complete ****-hole, full of housing association vermin, shops selling fake beer and cigs and nothing but Indian restaurants and mini-markets.

London can be a great place to live, though to really enjoy the best of it, it helps if you earn over £500k a year.
 
Manchester is the new media lovies city of choice now days. London is quality - if you know where you're going/looking for...I also would never have got a job in my line of work staying in Hull thats for sure. But as capitals go, I agree there is much better out there. We do a decent riot though.

I know, i was working at St Johns Hill and stayed at a dump of a place facing onto the common a couple of years back. Had many a stroll round there after work.
There was a hell of a lot of work going on renovating those houses too, bit like Pearson Park loads had been turned into bedsits and were now being returned to former glories as family houses.

Wembley is an absolute embarrassment of a place - its a joke the national stadium is there.

There's some great houses all over Wandsworth, I flogged my maisonette in 1991 for £78k and on that road now, they're going for £350-450k.

I have a family home near Hull as well as others elsewhere having been brought up within the boundary of Kingston upon Hull as a kid. Unfortunately, I have not actually worked in Hull for more than 20 years and in my line of work I too would not have worked if confined to these commercially depressed and politically geremandered environs.

However, I have worked in Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds and others as well as a few locations abroad throughout my career, never having to resort to where you seem to say is inevitable.

If I cared to have such a poor quality of life, then I too would work in London. Thankfully we ALL have choices, unless your career of choice is a LUL underground driver I suppose?

Cant knock the thieving underground drivers they get paid a mint and have 60 days hol a year haha! Just have to contend with the lottery of a depressed banker with itchy feet now and again...

Not saying you should have moved to London, but in my line of work it sadly/happily was a necessity.

Not everyone has to trudge through the daily commute/tube, It takes me 20minutes to get to work, even with the olympics on. If you work somewhere miles from where you live on the tube thats up to you to cope with the travel. Sod that.

Apart from infrequent trips to meetings, my travel to work takes a few minutes. From the bathroom up a flight of stairs to my office. Oh its a trudge!!!

And no it wasnt Seb Coe, it was a rather large 'yoof' in a hoody. I actually said to my Mrs It was like being back home on Boothferry! :laugh:
 
Having recently relocated my business from London, the distance from my office to my house is now walk-able(2.5 miles), which makes quite a difference from having to commute to London every week(as I have done for the past twenty one years).
