This should be a good open game from Vicarage Road because there are three points on offer which both of the clubs need. Watford have slipped to three straight losses and now have to show some character to snap out of that. West Ham are starting the weekend down in the relegation zone in the top flight. For the first time, they will be under the guidance of David Moyes, the man drafted in to come and save them. Will he have an impact in this first game with the Irons?

David Moyes gets his first game in charge of West Ham then. The general consensus is that he will come and make the Hammers harder to beat. However, because of his reputation of not being an attack-minded stylist, the Hammers really can’t afford to take too much away from an attack which has been failing for most of the season. The move for Moyes, who was relegated with Sunderland in his last Premier League managerial job, has been met with wide unenthusiasm really from Hammers fans. Is he the right man for the job? West Ham are already in the bottom three in the Premier League have collected only the one win in their last eight matches, a 1-0 home success over Swansea. Moyes will have to take a long hard look at West Ham’s defence which has been poor all season. It’s a place to start at least.

Watford need a win in this one to try and get some pressure off their backs. That is because they have slipped to three straight defeats in the Premier League after having posted a really positive start to the season. On top of that, boss Marco Silva seems to be the target of Everton and it would be a big loss for the Hornets if he were to be pried away. Watford are W1 D2 L2 at home this season in the top flight, with their success coming against Arsenal. But they went out in their following home game and despite dominating the game, lost 1-0 against Stoke in a huge disappointment. The Hornets have now conceded eight goals in their three league games.
Last Six Premier League Head to Head
    Watford 1 – 1 West Ham
    West Ham 2 – 4 Watford
    West Ham 3 – 1 Watford
    Watford 2 – 0 West Ham
    West Ham 0 – 1 Watford
    Watford 1 – 1 West Ham

Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, injured in Watford's last game with Everton, is fit to play against West Ham on Sunday.

There were no concussion issues, he says, and the gash to the left side of his face has healed remarkably. He won't need any facial protection and is ready to return to the side.

Hopefully play like we did in the first 60 minutes at Everton - and avoid any mishaps!

Thanks OFH. The thing about this one is everyone saying it’s West Ham’s biggest game of the season, but with the 3 defeats and the whole Silva thing, it’s our biggest too. We’ve got to approach it like that because they’ll be up for it, so we’ve got to be equal to them in that dept.

With a bit of luck and a heavy accelerator foot I should be back, just, in time for kick off. I see that we will be getting live Saturday evening fixtures in future. 3.00 pm Saturday is when games should be played. Can we win today? Yes. Will we win today? Wait and see. :emoticon-0100-smile

I notice that as we are the only match televised today we will be the only hightlights on MOTD2 - how will Lineker and co manage to watch so much of Watford dross and to ignore us for so long in the analysis afterwards.

    See you later folks.

Easy - it will be all about Moyes and Silva potentially leaving!

Won't be Gary Lineker anyway - usually Mark Chapman presents MOTD 2.

    Good morning all.

Second biggest game of the season for me as most of my first cousins and their children are west ham supporters as they all live between Romford and Southend, with a couple of dissenters towards spuds.
Odd that, considering our parents used to watch Millwall regularly back in the day before they got bombed out of Walworth and moved out near Dagenham... my Dad ended up at Headstone Lane in an FMB by 1944 and then South Oxhey in coronation year and lived in the same house until they died.

So, a turbulent and unsettling week for the fans, fuelled mainly by conjecture and speculation on social media by both innocent and malicious speculation probably best confined to the pub. How much of an effect it has had on the club we will find out by 7:00pm tonight.

We've lost three on the bounce for completely different reasons: failed to take our opportunities at chavski; somewhat bullied out of it by stoke, undone by a trading ground hotshot and our own indiscipline at crucial times; imploded like dying star forming a black hole at everton... the common thread being a defensive frailty not of the individuals themselves but of the system they clearly do not understand how to implement. They are all international footballers, responsibility has to lie with the coaching staff. Man to man, a player on each post and someone upfield to break away...think how QSF dealt with WBA a couple of seasons ago.

West Ham are frail but they will want to play well for their new manager, David Moyes, and quite how they and their travelling fans will react to his methods remains to be seen.

I think Watford will dictate how the game goes: either we'll right the wrongs of the previous three matches and put last week's unwelcome speculation behind us or we will capitulate in some typical fashion... It's more about what we do than what they do. On paper and knowing how well we can play this ought to be a comfortable home win. 2-2 then.

I predict West Ham will be too fired up and commit a big foul or two and get a sensing off.

I predict we will be on it and score 3

We should chant loud to let Silva know we want him to stay.

Anyone know why Deeney is nowhere to be seen? Maybe on his way to Everton. <laugh>

Watford Head Coach Marco Silva has been speaking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off:

"We have 100% focus on the game. Inside our training ground nobody talk about this, it's the moment to stop and prove this now on the pitch.

"Speculation is normal - when things go well or in a bad way. It's important that it doesn't come inside our dressing room. It's important to come back as we performed well last time but didn't get the result.

"It is important for the fans that we perform well today."
