What is he? I know he's central midfield but is he the CM or DM? I think DM should be priority

Wouldnt say dm. Gets a few goals. I’d compare him to Can from the limited bits I’ve seen of him but more a passer than dribbler.

Wow, massive statement by FSG and great deal for Saints.
I think Klopp will live and potentially die by this signing in the same way Brendan did with Lovren. At this money, vvd will have to perform immediately (an opinion which everyone will remind him constantly) and I'm not sure he is ready physically (serious injury, not match fit) nor ready psychologically (type of player that threw a strop when wasnt granted summer move).

I will gladly eat my hat if proven wrong

Hmm, I have similar fears, though we have the money and we have the need. Probably right to be bold - I'd have been the first to say that FSG ****ed us again by buying three journeyman instead of paying premium quality. If this works (and Lordy, I hope so) then it might just prise FSG away from the dreaded Moneyball concept.

We paid 35-40m for Ox and Klopp has managed him very well, he won't be rushed into doing anything IMO. Always does right by the player as opposed to the media pressure

You’ve bought the flavour of the month.........6 months after he was tasty...

Barking mad money, it remains to be seen if he can meet the massive expectations

Can't spend money you ain't got.
We were told we had plenty of dosh last summer and we didn't spend all that much.
Still expect Coutinho to go though.

£75m is a ****ing ridiculous amount of money for VvD. We'd better win everything now.
If he turns out to be another Lovrenesque disappointment I'll be well...... er, disappointed.

I never thought we would buy a defender for £75m, smashing the current world record by a wide margin. Even City with its unlimited petrodollars thought he was too expensive. So it is now looking certain that Coutinho will go, probably for £130m+ for this deal to balance the books.

Southampton as usual got what they wanted from us. Getting rid of an unwanted player for an extortionate amount of dough. As you say, he'd better deliver. But he'll be under the pressure of huge expectations now. He is expected to massively improve a crumbling defence and every little fault will be dissected.

The expectations of being 3 times better than Klaassen? <laugh>

I do hope too that he is the answer to our defensive problems. But this spending of £75m is way outside our usual MO. Have we decided to "buy trophies" like the mancs, the oil backed City and Chelsea ?

To put this buy into context, we could have bought 2 Salahs for the money. Or bought De Bruyne and have enough spare change to get a decent quality full back. The Saints had us over a barrel and we've given in.
