Just what was Salah supposed to have done to cheat? The first pen was harsh, but that is apparently the rule now, even if the ball comes off your knee then hits your outstretched hand. But was Salah not supposed to claim it? Really? And are they actually disputing the second pen? Ffs, even the player who committed it didn't argue. And, whataboutery I know, but I've now seen Virgil's second goal, that was disallowed, several times: Their player tripped over Jones going after Virgil, whom he'd have never caught anyway.
I was just about to post about Virgil's second goal. I watched the Review on LFCTV and they have the technology to stop the video and do 360° rotation. It went close in and circled the feet of the player who went down and his own team mate who had hooked his foot. That's how he fell over, nothing to do with a slight brush with Jones. They were shocked that VAR who had a look, didn't give the goal.

Fortunately the penalty was the most blatant decision ever, Oliver had no choice and even said that to the Leeds players
Only the first game but we were led to believe that refs would make use of pitch side screens. Do that and they don't lose face about being overruled, if that's what they're worried about.
I don't think the first was harsh at all. His arm is out and, irrelevant of the deflection (off his own leg!), it stops an on target effort. Clear penalty imo and I'd be saying there same if it were against us.
You expect players now to have both arms behind their back in that situation. Their player had one arm behind his back and the other stretched out on the side a left footed shot was going to go, to block it which is what he did. Not harsh decision at all.
I can highly recommend LFCTV GO for the post match analysis. You get to see the contentious decisions close up. They are very fair in their comments as well.
I wouldn't expect them to have their arms behind they're back, that's very unnatural and hard to do. But seems out like he did is dangerous and if it blokes a shot on target then it should be a penalty
In general, no I don't expect players to have their arms behind their backs but it's becoming increasingly common to see defenders put their arms behind their backs in these situations for fear of giving away a penalty especially with rule changes (not just this year) regarding handball
Claiming it shouldn't be a penalty if a defender carelessly throws their arm out is like claiming it shouldn't be either if a defender carelessly leaves a leg out that trips an opponent.

Yeah, I saw the tangle of feet but didn't spot it was his own player. Point was, he fell over in a scrum. If they'd given a penalty for that (and God knows, it happens to Virgil in every game), there would have been uproar. That is wasn't reviewed was outrageous.
In real time the ref doesn't have a clue what's happened there so best guesses it and says our player must have pushed him. Bring in VAR which doesn't work on best guesses but on what actually happened and you have the right outcome. Trouble is it won't overrule the ref so we're still going on best guesses. Oliver is our best referee imo, so I hold him to a higher standard. He needs to do better. And let's get rid of this - in 50/50 situations - favouring the underdog nonsense.
