I don't know much about them either Chazz but I had to get my daughter to set one up for me the last time I went to Lanzarote.Nowadays it's illegal to use online gambling sites when you're over there.I use Bet 365 for example and when you are abroad it won't allow you to place bets(something to do with Spain,in this case, blocking you from gambling for tax purposes,I think?).

Anyway, she set me up one of these VPN's and it worked fine.I think it 'tricks' your connection into believing your somewhere your not? This is a very crude explanation and is probably wrong but that's what I used it for and yes,I'm a fairly sad individual going abroad and having the need to gamble.:emoticon-0103-cool:

Edit:- The post above is probably clearer.LOL.

Surprised some people are so unaware of their uses and think they are only for watching dodgy sites. Apart from enabling you watch region restricted stuff and keeping your browsing details private which cuts down on the junk emails and phone calls you can be bombarded with they have another important use. If you are out and about using public WiFi you are susceptible to snoopers getting your details. You don't know the WiFi hot spot you have connected to is genuine either. A bit worrying when you can be using your phone to check on your bank account or pay forvsomething. A VPN helps thwart these things.

Great explanation, never realised about the snooper thing, thanks for that.

These 2 articles may help explain features and functions of most "respectable'' VPN providers, typical costs & level of customer service (the Le-VPN product acquired/tookover my original VPN provider's software (was called "myvpn.co.uk").

A great tool for ex-pats to watch e.g. live terrestrial TV channels that offer internet streaming sites.
e.g. I'm watching BBC Ch2 live as we speak - as if I was in my sister's lounge in Kirkella.
"Can you put the kettle on for a cuppa Liz, please?"

Gamble irresponsibly whilst in Spain?

Double my Netflix content?

Thwart supersnoopers?

Pay half price for IFollow?

Simulate drinking tea in Kirkella?

And watch porn without me Mam finding out!

I'm having one of these babies.

A few important questions though...

How big are they?

What colours can you get them in?

Are they all basically the same shape? (Or can you get novelty ones for a laugh)?

Are they water resistant?

I only ask the latter cos I dropped my iPhone down the bog a few months ago and it wasn't happy.

Don't want to fork out a tenner on something that I may inadvertently turn into a brick cos I don't look after it.

Ah, an ethereal post. There are no solid answers sadly.
