When I was last on this board, which was on Friday (around 11:45 BST, maybe) I managed to import. from somewhere, 22 viruses. Or so our AVG said. I was immediately "invited" by my wife who views our computer as her computer to leave off and stay away until I contact you and find out if any of you noticed anything. My wife spent 40 years workng in a college library but her first thought was that I should contact you from a public access computer at a library which is where I am now

I am mostly interested in making sure that 1) that the viruses didn't come from here and 2) those that were on at the same time as me (that I recall were ELLERS, Nines and Oslo) are safe just now as well

I'll be back on here is a day or two but if anybody knows anything (positive or otherwise) about this would p,eaase respond to this message and tell me. I'd like to continue using this board from home

Every time I seem to log on now I get a message saying that malware has been blocked. If I click on the message I get an upgrade offer on my anti-virus software ( avast. ) I just think it's a way of drumming up business. But in saying that, it only happens when I log onto here. Everything seems fine though maple, maybe Northy, DT or someone else on here who is more computer literate will be better positioned to advise you. But as far as I can tell all is fine this end. I have also downloaded google chrome which has extra protection built in as well.

Sorry but what has the fact that your wife worked in a college library for 40 years and she wants sole ownership of your laptop got to do with viruses on not 606.

It sounds like you are under the thumb and need to man up a bit. tell her it's your PC and assure her firmly there are no viruses on this site.

My Computer is once again riddled with viruses and this is the Site I use most (no adult sites anymore ;)) . Its going so slow now that I'll probably have to get it fixed because my anti-virus software doesn't seem to be doing a damn thing to help me.

My story is repetitive. Buy Lap-Top, it crashes, I get it fixed. This happens a few times before I have to buy another one. Then I...............................................Buy Lap-Top, it crashes, I get it fixed..............................

From time to time I've seen posters complaining about viruses on here, but in a year of posting I've never once had a problem. I don't on any site tbf. Firstly make sure all infections are cleared off your PC by using Malwarebytes Anti Malware. It's the best free virus remover out there. The free version doesn't offer real-time protection like AVG, but it's worth having on your PC as an "on-demand" scanner just in case.

Secondly I'd consider ditching AVG for MSE.

There's some good advice in this link regarding general online safety.

It really does not matter what antivirus is used, but have it. Even more importantly, be smart when using the web and internet. Here are some very good steps that will prevent almost all Maleware/viruses (The crazy thing is, it's not a program; Its You, the end user!)
1. Don't look at Adult Material (aka Pr0n) on the internet.
2. Don't download kazaa, bear share, limewire, etc, etc.... buy your music for real.
You end up spending more money paying "geekpatrol" (trying not to use real names) to fix all the viruses you received because your 13 yr old daughter was trying to download the latest Avril Lavreign song on limewire.
3. Stay away from anything free (i.e. "try this free for 2 weeks, cancel anytime, free acie berry diet pills... the list goes on..." some free stuff is good, like MS security essentials....)
4. Don't click on untrusted "Sponsored adds" or download email attachments from untrusted senders. (UPS, facebook, or ebay will not send an attachment to update your password, or track a package.... EVER!)
5. Facebook is great for catching up with old friends, or staying in touch with new ones. But stay away from all the ads and BS games.
6. Don't click on pop ups or windows that say things like "1200 viruses found click here to clean!" (Wait, how did they find 1200 viruses and when did I start a scan? OH I don't remember installing AntiVirus 2010!!!! ("alt+F4" is your friend it will close fake pop ups like these.) you may loose what you are looking at but it is worth it.

7. DO google search companies that you are unsure about followed by "Consumer reports" or "BBB" (Better Business Bureau)
8. DO use intra site searching when using google. Example: you are searching for Microsoft security essentials, if you put "site: microsoft.com" after your search keywords it will search through Microsofts site first and display those results before any other sites.
9. DO right click and select "Copy shortcut" for any unusual looking links and paste it into notepad, the displayed text for a link can be deceiving... http://www.ebay.com is much different fromhttp://www.ebay.oedl.eds.something.com, websites are ready backwards starting with the .com then the primary domain, this example would be ebay.
and..

10. DO WATCH your kids internet and computer use.... No you are not snooping, or creeping, or invading privacy... you are being a good parent. I cannot stress this enough! The internet can be a dangerous place; I know, I've been there....
Look into http://www.opendns.com for keyword filtering, restricting websites, and many other free options.
I hope this helps a bit, as I have been in the IT field for quite a few years I have seen all the different types of users, and one thing they all have in common is that they don't understand the technology. But with a couple easy to remember tips it is easy to stay away from viruses and maleware.
one more, search: "uninstall software site: microsoft.com" and "removed Tool bars site: microsoft.com" get rid of un-needed programs and excessive toolbar addins.... if you have more than one tool bar in your internet explorer, you should get rid of them (and watch when installing apps, like yahoo messager, Adobe Reader, java, etc. They all have a prechecked checkbox to install a toolbar. just uncheck it.... )
O and Run an antivirus/antimaleware.... doesn't matter which just make sure some popup said if you buy this now it will fix your problems. Trust the trusted providers,

Not sure as i am not the best person to ask ... i have only had one PC in 20 years and that lasted about a year and i only used it for testing!!!. I honestly don't know how the outside world works with them ... There is no excuse ... On Mac in those 20 years i have had one worm

See my post above. If you think you've viruses, download Malwarebtes Anti Malware and scan with that. Do you want some more tips for speeding up your PC? It'll be quite a long post but might save you some cash. :)

Have not excperienced any problems Syrup mate. I guess the condom my present PC is wrapped in is doing its job. Good luck! Sounds like you need some better protection.

Go on ebay and buy a mac ... save a lot of headaches and money long term
100% agree. You will save in the long term. If you are wedded to MS Office you can get perfectly good versions for Apple kit. I am not on commission.

I have google chrome.AVG and have had no reports. I have had no reports from anyone about a virus and this site is well protected, Mick would sharp tell me if we had a problem, honest.

I have had a few problems from this site as well. My Antivirus always says that 'Things were blocked'. A bit too tech for me.

I use Google Chrome - No problems...

Apart from tracked everywhere you go as its riddled with spyware, use Chromium as its the same browser before all the nasties get put in.

Sounds like your missed thinks you spend too much time on here and is thinking of a reason to get you off. Use Chromium or firefox and adblock. I bet you have IE which downloads anything nasty and runs it automatically.
