Roberto Mancini is ready to rush Vincent Kompany back into action to get Manchester Cityâs title bid back on track. City have struggled since Kompany was forced off with a calf injury after 12 minutes of the Europa League first leg against Sporting Lisbon nine days ago. Without the Belgian defender, City lost in the Estadio Jose Alvalade and against Swansea in the Premier League at the weekend, with Mancini opting to pair Kolo Toure with Stefan Savic in the centre of defence. And Cityâs defensive frailties were exposed again in the return leg with Sporting when two first-half goals cost them their place in the Europa League. Mancini originally ruled Kompany out for 10 days after he hobbled off in Lisbon. Then, ahead of Thursdayâs second leg, the Italian revealed he had pencilled his captain in for a return against Stoke on March 24. But with City out of Europe and overtaken by United at the top of the Premier League, Mancini is ready to welcome Kompany back early to face Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. Kompanyâs regular centre-half partner, Joleon Lescott, is also likely to return against Roberto Di Matteoâs side.
