Roberto Mancini is ready to rush Vincent Kompany back into action to get Manchester City’s title bid back on track. City have struggled since Kompany was forced off with a calf injury after 12 minutes of the Europa League first leg against Sporting Lisbon nine days ago. Without the Belgian defender, City lost in the Estadio Jose Alvalade and against Swansea in the Premier League at the weekend, with Mancini opting to pair Kolo Toure with Stefan Savic in the centre of defence. And City’s defensive frailties were exposed again in the return leg with Sporting when two first-half goals cost them their place in the Europa League. Mancini originally ruled Kompany out for 10 days after he hobbled off in Lisbon. Then, ahead of Thursday’s second leg, the Italian revealed he had pencilled his captain in for a return against Stoke on March 24. But with City out of Europe and overtaken by United at the top of the Premier League, Mancini is ready to welcome Kompany back early to face Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. Kompany’s regular centre-half partner, Joleon Lescott, is also likely to return against Roberto Di Matteo’s side.

Don't think he'll risk him at all if Lescott can play alongside Toure
I very much doubt our medical team would allow it to happen either if he's not ready

Having Kompany AND Lescott out at the same time is disastrous for us. Just one of the two back for Chelsea would be good, both would be excellent.

The cover is simply not good enough, highlighted on Thursday. When either Kompany or Lescott out it's not the same, when they are both out our defence is a shambles.

I like Savic, he gives his best every time he plays and he tries his best. But he is not good enough. Mancini needs to accept it was probably a mistake getting him, and in the summer sell him. Or at the very least loan him out, maybe with a bit of experience he could develop into a good defender, we have seen signs (home to Spurs for example until THAT back header, the kind we've seen a few of from him) of a good player.

Kolo Toure. Time to go. The only reason I would want him to stay is if he is the difference between Yaya staying and leaving. He's decent, but we can certainly attract better defenders.

New centre back is a must in the summer. Maybe not someone who is going to force Lescott out of the side. Highly rated youngster such as Sakho perhaps?

Savic is the sort of player I wouldn't mind seeing at Southampton on loan maybe, assuming we go up this season. Maybe he'll go to a bigger club, well, probably, but if he doesnt get snatched up then I'd quite like him. Think he's a great player but the pressure of playing in a title race and filling the shoes of players such as Lescott and Kompany have made him stumble a bit.

In a few years imo he'll be fine but you need Kompany back.. just dont think Mancini would risk Kompany for one game with a chance of aggravating injury.

Yeah I like Savic and I hope he turns into a top player. A loan would probably do him good and I'm sure he'd compete for a place at Southampton. Could work for us and you.
