Personally I'd say he's a left wing forward, in a Neymar sort of mould. Fantastic talent. I'll be surprised if he's not at somewhere like Bayern/ Barca/ Real etc time within 2-3 years if he continues his progress.
Yeah. Sadly I don't know any Dutch. Mind you the best Dutch related joke I heard was from the old-606 board when someone in a thread about transfer targets said we were interested in "Hertz van Rental".
Not as bad as the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dyke, he was called Dick, so when your dick's in a dyke think twice about taking it out!
If Dick van Dyke did join a London club, he might improve that dreadful Cockney accent, cor blimey guv'nor.
A name that still isn't a ludicrous as Norwich's latest signing, despite being made up. Looks a decent player though, Ricky van Wolfswinkel. Bagged a hat-trick against Braga on the weekend in a 3-2 win. We were linked with him in the past and £8m seems pretty cheap.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-month-and-Jan-Vertonghen-player-of-the-month A well deserved POTM too, well done Jan.
I too would like to see Jan in midfield. For me he has everything needed to be a class CM, with Either Sandro or Dembele, or with Sando/Parker and Bale or Dembele ahead. He is quite weak physically, and when up against Lukaku types think Kaboul and Caulker would be a good pair. Plus these three up at corners would be an interesting prospect. Parker will not be around forever, and for me, a cm who is creative, scores as much as verts, has his technique and defensive qualities would be alot more expensive than the amount we paid, or would pay for a new cb.
For me, Jan is the best defender we have had in years, as good as Ledley potentially, but without the crumbling knees. Partnered with Kaboul, we have as good a pairing as anybody in the EPL. The idea of pushing him forward leaves me baffled. You build winning teams from the back four forward. Let's get that right first.
Exactly. The vast majority of the world's best sides nowadays give very little away. In fact the reason that PL sides have done so poorly in Europe this year is, to a large part, down to poor defending. You seem to be able to get away with it in the PL as nobody else can defend well, either. In Europe you get found out.
We also have Caulker who is potentially up there too that makes 3 top CB's none of whom I would like to see going elsewhere. If Verts could double up in midfield or Kaboul for that matter it would give us more options with top class players.
Kaboul is also a fine athlete. So, the two together should go on a form as formidable CB partnership as there is anywhere.
