I know it sounds daft, but I think you can have too much money to spend. You pay too much for players, pay them massive wages, and buy too many players then not be able to use them. The team then has dissent in the ranks. The best thing is to have reasonable money that enable you to get the players you want and then success has been achieved in a rounded manner...not just been bought.
True...we were big spenders in League 1 and the Championship, but I was referring to massive spending. I honestly think that although I would no doubt enjoy winning the title by spending millions, there would be part of me that would feel uncomfortable.
For me seeing Saints winning something would feel completely wrong, like being best man at your mothers wedding...
Here is the letter Usmanov supposedly sent to the Arsenal board http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/99187277?access_key=key-24g66yia942joc3pjdyg I couldn't be bothered to read it, but some of you may find it interesting
I would have thought you were dog tired of seeing Saints as the bridesmaid all the time, and never the bride. If there was a prize for the amount of times teams have been runners-up in any particular league of cup competition, I'm sure Saints would be up there in the top 3 teams. They'd probably end up runners-up in that competition too,
I wonder if Mr C will have a glass of wine or a vodka with this gentleman in the Board room at the Emirates in August. I did ask him what the long term plan for the company is when I met him and asked what he would do if someone came with a wad of cash. We have all wondered how much money is available to NC... maybe he could do some courting?
Arsenal should have kept him & let him leave for nothing this season. Just imagine how bad the decision will look if they miss out on the Champions League money!
I wholeheartedly agree, but for Arsenal to sell their start player to a big rival for a measly £24M seems a mistake now. What's the Champions League qualification worth.....£50m?
