I know it sounds daft, but I think you can have too much money to spend. You pay too much for players, pay them massive wages, and buy too many players then not be able to use them. The team then has dissent in the ranks. The best thing is to have reasonable money that enable you to get the players you want and then success has been achieved in a rounded manner...not just been bought.

True...we were big spenders in League 1 and the Championship, but I was referring to massive spending. I honestly think that although I would no doubt enjoy winning the title by spending millions, there would be part of me that would feel uncomfortable.

For me seeing Saints winning something would feel completely wrong, like being best man at your mothers wedding...

I would have thought you were dog tired of seeing Saints as the bridesmaid all the time, and never the bride. If there was a prize for the amount of times teams have been runners-up in any particular league of cup competition, I'm sure Saints would be up there in the top 3 teams. They'd probably end up runners-up in that competition too,

The Arsenal board don't want Usmanov to join the board for some reason. He's worth £12bn and apparently would invest in the team.

Oh Arsenal...

I wonder if Mr C will have a glass of wine or a vodka with this gentleman in the Board room at the Emirates in August. I did ask him what the long term plan for the company is when I met him and asked what he would do if someone came with a wad of cash. We have all wondered how much money is available to NC... maybe he could do some courting?

Tbh I think Man Utd winning the title was more the other teams being crap the Utd being amazing.

I wholeheartedly agree, but for Arsenal to sell their start player to a big rival for a measly £24M seems a mistake now. What's the Champions League qualification worth....£50m?
Arsenal are run purely to make profit these days, better to get 24m then nothing.

I bet this is going to haunt Arsenal. Star player after star player is now obviously unconvinced at Arsenal's ambition. Van Persie is making most of the difference there and I'm betting he has questioned Wenger & Co what they intend to do about it, to make his prospects better at winning something at club level.

What?! Van Persie is leaving Arsenal?? Next you'll be telling me Jim Magilton is leaving Ipswich! <laugh>
