I imagine all the big authoritarians have taken a leaf out of Hitler’s book at some point.

The worry is, that a lot of Trump’s people have actively said he wants “generals like Hitler had” and keeps referring to Nazi stuff behind the scenes. If it was just one, yeah you’d probably go “disgruntled employee lying”. But it’s a lot of people who spent years working closely with him.

I don’t think he’ll go full on Hitler, I’d hope America can at least resist that, but the instigation of the Alien Enemies Act was what led to Japanese Americans being interred in detention camps like Manzanar. That’s what he has said.

We had it with “build the wall”. Everybody said he wouldn’t do it, then he tried to do it. People seem to think he speaks in hyperbole or engages in semantics, but his track record suggests he is very literal.

Obama’s rate of deportations per month was 4 times more than Trump’s. Don’t recall him being compared to Hitler.

How much time have you spent living in former communist countries before or after the fall of the iron curtain?

Haven’t lived there but had business dealing with and went to Eastern European states when they were communist. Also went to Spain when Franco was in power. Know which was preferable. Franco didn’t have to shoot people trying to leave to stop them, they were free to do so if they didn’t like it.

I think it’s really disappointing that posters are turning this into name calling of each other and makes it a good reason to not have politics threads all the time.
Also none of these candidates are morons or idiots or thick as ****
They hold different beliefs or more likely spout different beliefs just to appeal to a different demographic that they need to attract to win

You impressively made it to 7 pages before Nazis, Communists, the USSR, the Labour party, podcasts and Mein Kampf kicked in.

Let's leave it there and go back to the USA.

Why were france in power of spain?

Meloni has made the far right in Italy far more respectable than Berlusconi did, this is what the Republican Party need to do post-Trump.

Depends on what you regard as far right. Some people regard anyone not as far left as Mao as far right.

Someone throwing in fascist, predictably. The USA was involved in less conflict under Trump than Obama or Biden. Still, you can expect overwrought reactions from someone who watches football like watching a game of chess.

There was less conflict under Neville Chamberlin than Winston Churchill but I know who I'd rather have by my side in scrap.

Looking at it all, I think whoever takes Pennsylvania takes the white house

Basically, yep. Though some of the early signs are that some solid red states aren’t as solid as they were before. Iowa, Texas and Florida being three. It’s not going to impact the election too heavily for whoever doesn’t win and I don’t think all three will turn blue, but the fact they are in play should be a worry for Trump.

What an apt comparison.

“okay you have this bit of Ukraine but you’d better not…alright you can have that bit as well but no more. No, you can’t have Moldova. Alright you can have Moldova, but no, not Georgia, that’s too far.”

I'd be very surprised if Texas and Florida turn blue... Iowa, I'm not sure
