Remember when I posted taking the piss and laughing about the fact that a QANON head banger had actually been elected to Congress back in November?

Turns out it wasn’t funny.

You must log in or register to see media

Those Gallows they erected outside of Capitol Hill might come in handy after all.

Parler, the new right-wing echochamber alternative to Facebook, requires a drivers licence to join.
You have to post pictures of the front and back, which contains quite a lot of information.
They've just been hacked and had their entire server downloaded! <laugh> Oops.
I’d imagine there’s some very interesting posts, pics and DM’s that’ll be pawed over and released shortly. Complete with metadata and personal info.

Don't know if anyone's already mentioned this, but surely the easiest way to demonstrate Trump's guilt on the charge of inciting insurrection is to simply ask a few hundred of the morons involved in the riot.

They're all proud of what they did, you can see this on the news channels. None are denying it. Just ask them if they had the support of Trump and whether his speeches emboldened them in their actions. There's a catch 22 for the knuckle-heads right there. And they're thick enough to openly admit he encouraged them to do it.

I think the worst part of the media or should i say more social media, it offers the extreme right and left wing idiots a platform, while the moderates/liberals get snuffed out in the middle and basically don't have a real voice because they are not extreme enough to hold one, but also generally have very little to offer. The remaining centre left and centre right get dragged down with the morons or at the very least tarnished with the same brush.

No doubt about it. Hopefully, this case as well as the **** going on around misinformation over Covid and the vaccine will bring about measures to hold media platforms to account as 'publishers'. As well as cracking down on the dark web sites. I won't hold my breath though as it's me hoping rather than expecting it to happen.

Unlike established media and news channels who have to adhere to rigorous standards of journalism, social media has given a voice to all sorts of baseless, biased and loudmouthed bollocks. You need have zero qualifications or actual experience or insight, just the ability to rant and whip up emotional responses.

unfortunately we’ve seen actual campaigns fought on these very same premises. Trump’s 2016 campaign was reduced to platitudes and soundbites ‘make America great again’ whilst blaming ethnic minorities and society’s poor for everybody’s problems.

The Brexit campaign was fought on similar lines, ‘take back control’ and ‘get our country back’ it played on all the same underlying fears and blame game about foreigners trying to take over. In fact the Brexit campaign was so inspired by Trump’s campaign, that Aaron banks infamously said that ‘facts don’t matter, you have to appeal to people’s emotions’ after seeing how successful it was.

Now we see it being played out with covid, actual facts dismissed in favour of spurious social media commentators and YouTube ‘experts’. And the rise of Neo-Fascist organisations like Qanaon and various other right wing ‘patriot’ sites. All enabled by social media. To the point where they staged an actual Coup attempt in the heart of US Govt.

Nobody wants to see an over regulated press or censorship, but the abuse of ‘free speech’ has to be addressed. You can’t carry on giving these people the oxygen to spread their hate and lies.

Wanna bet?

Wanna bet?

Not really. <laugh>

I’m seeing all sorts of ****ehawk ‘news’ channels popping up online now, claiming to be ‘independent from the bias of mainstream media’.

Seems it’s getting worse, not better.

Don't do a search for News UK TV or GB News, then. You will not like the result.

Ive had one called ‘unlocked’ pop up on my Facebook ads. The presenter is a Brexit party candidate who also used to edit lads mag Loaded. He rather accurately once described himself as ‘expert in defending the indefensible’

Daubney? Didn't know that was what he was doing now.
Anything that uses common sense or telling it how it is as a selling point is going to be a load of ****.

The problem is how do you regulate it. For example if I or you was a regulator, our opinions would be completely different. Just because someone can prove something factually don't make the other persons opinion invalid.

Take Trump as an example, he should be held to account, but how do you judge on what is being held to account, versus the Democrats point scoring over the Republicans, and that would be my fear as much as Trump is my fear.

Some people are not capable of being impartial. I've seen lefties in my younger life, that scared the wit out of me, because they were so hard core in their view, that only their view mattered.

It's the same with covid, I think a pandemic is too much for a fight against it to be regulated by any government, because they are incapable of political gain and devision from it. It should be done/enforced by medical bodies, but even then it can still become tarnised by political leanings.

Take your comment that i've quoted is political leanings against the right, I don't see you mention any of the criminal activities that happened during the BLM protests. I've read lots of your comments, they all tend to lean one way, so that would make you yourself incapable of being a regulator.

You see the problems with regulation. It dosn't really improve anything, it just silence voices and the fear with that is it may silence voices that are not extreamists.

Ofcom would be a good vehicle, but much of the content is international so beyond their remit.
