It wouldn't surprise me, but he didn't say it in front of a camera or on social media. And it would be something the Trump supporters will easily claim to be msm instigated.

This is what concerns me the most. Politicians have always lied and been caught out with their shady dealings, that's not new. But what has happened in the past is that when robust journalism has exposed these misdemeanours, they are usually brought to task (in western democracies anyway)

But what you have now, since the first Trump campaign and Aaron Banks stealing their lines for the Brexit campaign and infamously uttering the words 'Facts don't matter' is a scenario where denial reigns and folk of this ilk simply dig themselves in deeper and deeper.

Rigorous journalism, fact checking and scientific testing are pigeonholed as a left wing agenda, and instead replaced with manipulative half truths, deception and outright lies, peddled by shady internet news channels and paid shills from the right wing.

Amazing how anybody with a critical thinking mind can lap this **** up, but there you go.

It's so naive to think that Trump is only demonised due to a left wing media agenda.

You only have to look at the bloke's own words and behaviour to see what he's all about.

Trump is the type of person who could never admit he was wrong. And he'd probably admit to that too.

A terrible attribute for a politician to have. What's more, is that he's deliberately surrounded himself with sycophants and yes men, so that there is literally no voice offering him a counter view and a balance of opinion. Trump is as far down the rabbit hole as some of his bat **** followers are.

We’re witnessing the proliferation, through the Internet, of a right wing political cult. Or possibly a series of loosely affiliated political cults.

Imagine if the Moonies, Scientologists, Branch Davidians (of Waco fame), Aum SrinRikyo (who carried out the Tokyo metro satin attack) etc all turned their attention from the pseudo-spiritual to the political arena. Think of it that way, and some of the fringe forces driving Maga, Brexit and Steve Bannon’s “movement” become easier to understand.

The internet has allowed this **** to proliferate. I'm all for free speech and people being able to use these platforms, you'd hope that people would have the intelligence to see it for what it is, but it has become more sophisticated and its reach has become far and wide.

But you're right, it is a cult. Facts are replaced with faith or straight up denial and promoting the agenda has become more important that seeking the truth.

Yeah, it’s tempting to blame the tech companies for allowing hate and lies to proliferate on their platforms. I’m willing to give Twitter and Facebook the benefit of the doubt and accept that their reluctance to control content was down to an aversion to censorship. But that approach has failed, as both appear to have belatedly recognised.

Pretty sure Trump will be off Twitter altogether as soon as he leaves the Whitehouse. Facebook needs to do a lot more to recover their reputation as a vehicle for sinister extremist messages.
