Mrs Fez and I registered our interest last night. Whether we're deemed "acceptable" to host a refugee or two remains to be seen, but we are prepared to do so and are doing (for us) what we consider to be the right thing.
We are like: chalk and cheese; Arsenal and Watford; slightly right of centre and left of centre; a christian act and a moral duty...
The government are shifting the responsibility away from themselves to put it on the people for sure. Well f*** them and their pitiful idea of morals, we think we have the space and this is the right thing to do and frankly we're going to try and do it.
Bit of space arranging and tidying up to do, mind!

Good for you Mr and Mrs. I hope you will keep us informed about how the process works out.

With the French Presidential elections just around the corner, this conflict could not have come at a worse time for the two candidates, who despite their protests are openly racist. It would appear that not so many refugees have family ties in France, so the numbers seeking refuge here are not so high, but some countries are struggling with one conflict after another driving people from their homes. We have seen the willingness of the British people to help out, and I make a distinction between the people and the government who have had their arm up behind their backs. Despite campaigns throughout Europe, there is still an unhealthy racist element bubbling away under the surface often seen, I am afraid to say at football matches.

There is a marked contrast between Germany having taken in 150,000 already from Ukraine, without any bureaucratic hurdles whatsoever and those refugees who are still stranded on Lasbos island, and have been for years.

Will do indeedy. MrsFez has done charity work in Sri Lanka before. Nearest I've got to that sort of thing was best part of 20 years in the SJAB. If/when I get my Chartered qualification I will look at sending myself off somewhere for a few months, help get a school or small hospital up or something. Might need to wait til I "retire". We'll see. Got to make the step up first.

Marina Ovsyannikova is editor of the "Channel One" broadcaster in Russia. She'll doubtless go down in history for photo bombing the anchor as she was reading out the channel's p̶r̶o̶p̶a̶g̶a̶n̶d̶a̶ news to Russian viewers. Her placard reads “Stop the war, don’t believe the propaganda, they are lying to us here” - for that she is facing a 15 year prison sentence.

Some people deserve the respect of the whole world.

Amazing what happens when the eyes of the world are upon you.

"I want to thank everyone for their support" Marina Ovsyannikova after leaving the courtroom. The court decided to fine Marina 30,000 rubles ($280)

My ‘like’ was from interest and agreement, not ‘liking’ the situation, obviously!

Not specifically aimed at the current crisis, more a message for all gun happy governments who think they can start wars at the drop of a hat. A message that like-minded people everywhere should be delivering.

Rather lost count, but there has been a stream of heavy military transport planes going overhead today. No idea what they have on board, medical supplies, food or weapons, and no idea where they are taking it. It just seems that things are being stepped up.

Some twat complained Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed US Congress whilst not wearing a suit - and elicited this perfect response.

This was in response to our Prime Minister’s racist ‘letter-box’ comments, wasn’t it?
