Latest poll findings.

Asked if Brexit with the government's deal would be worth it if it means lower economic growth, just 19% think it would be, compared to 63% who say it would not.
Just over half of Britons (51%) said that staying in the EU would be best for the economy. More people think a no-deal Brexit will be best for the economy (24%) than Brexit with the government's deal (17%).

Maybe this only deals with economic questions, but no government wins when they admit they will increase taxes and make people worse off. If there was any doubt the tide is turning, today's forecasts from the government have made a big impression already.

 

I doubt many MP's take any notice of ex-pats especially after the repeated court challenges which have failed. Have you tried putting an English address at the top?

 

These figures are not surprising with project hysteria under way. These are not forecasts, which they rarely get anywhere near right, but extreme possibilities. The public should look at those used in project fear to realise it is all 'remain' propaganda.

 

Interesting to see the hard Brexiters going on about hysteria etc. I listened to Mark Carney this morning on the today programme.. He was at pains to explain that he is charged to scope worst case scenarios for the financial sector which wasn't envisaged in the 2008 crisis.

I have yet to see one substantive financial analysis from the hard Brexit camp.. As of course they all know and have admitted the economy will indeed struggle for some years...

Typical response. Of course I put an English address on it. Still I see that she is about to write to everyone to tell them why she has overcome her principles and will support the PM. I doubt that the perks of being a Minister swayed her one little bit.

 

Yesterday on the news there was an item about people self harming and committing suicide in Norfolk and Suffolk I think. I don't understand why people do it, but there is a big problem that needs some serious input. The trust that is responsible for mental health issues has had the funding slashed, and has lost a quarter of the doctors and nurses. Phone up for help, and you get offered an appointment weeks later. Too late for some as they take their own lives.
The Minister for health appeared in front of a Commons Committee to answer questions on what his department was doing to prepare for Brexit. He informed them that they were taking on leases for refrigerated warehousing to store medicines in. When asked how much he had spent on this, he said it was not a lot, "in the low tens of millions of pounds".
So the government can find money when it wants to, but not when it comes to saving lives. Priorities wrong in my opinion. I wonder how many people would have voted for such a situation?

 

The PM speaking at the Liaison committee this morning made it clear if her deal is voted down the only alternative is leaving on a no deal basis.
She has ruled out a second referendum and a general election.

 

Nonsense. She refused to speculate on what she would do. She simply said that decisions would have to be taken.

 

Immigration from the EU falls to its lowest level since 2012, while immigration from the rest of the world reached its highest level since 2004. Clearly if you want to control the numbers coming into the country, the government is looking in the wrong place. Yet the Brexiteers said the increase was all down to FOM and many fell for it. Time for them to stand up and admit they lied.

 

This is an old issue, membership of the EU has been decided, we are leaving not before time.

She also said if her deal was voted down, immediate "practical steps" would be taken to prepare for no deal.

 

Do you believe that everything she says is correct? You don't think she might be forced to change course yet again when the vote goes against her? I thought you had paid up your £25 simply to get rid of her.

She actually said that "some steps" would be required if her deal was voted down. She also said that the planning for a no deal would have to continue. Rather different to what you said. What is all this about turning Kent into a lorry park about?

 

She said 'immediate practical steps would be taken' but did not indicate in which direction. The truth is that she was evasive on more or less every direct question which was raised. The truth is that she would have practically no authority to do anything other than resign in the event of her deal being voted down - but she can hardly turn round and say 'I will retire to the Scottish Highlands'. In the event of a 'no vote' then there will be a 21 day cooling off period before a second vote (yes, they allow them for this !), during which time the pound would collapse and things would start to look very different. The truth is nobody knows what would happen in this event. She could resign, could be ousted by her own party. There could be a vote of no confidence. Could be a General Election and/or a second referendum - it is only in this case that the EU. would extend the deadline. It could still happen that, rather than falling off a cliff, Parliament stops Brexit altogether (and May has suggested that this can happen) - this would be perfectly democratic because we live in a representative democracy. They could abandon the whole thing of Brexit tomorrow, without a second referendum, and it would be perfectly in accordance with our constitution and our democratic traditions. Or it could come to a no deal Brexit - but in that case emergency regulations would have to be brought in very quickly - a case of 'waving things through'. However things work out we have to recognise that extraordinary situations like this require extraordinary solutions, which may not already be on the statute book.

 

My contribution towards the Conservatives coffers was to ensure the dreaded Labour Party with the Marx brothers continues to lose elections. Helping to choose the next PM is a bonus.

Although I disagree with her deal I have been impressed by her fortitude and sense of public service. It is no wonder she is much more popular than the hapless French leader disliked universally and especially by the French themselves.

I understand there are many issues in France you would rather hide.

 

It is so reassuring in our time of change and instability to know that there are some things which never change. Such as 'The sun will rise tomorrow', and........SH will change the subject to avoid difficult questions. So utterly predictable. One day it will be different and then we will have purple snow on the hills

 

It is so predictable remainers trying to hide the numerous negatives currently affecting the EU. Trying to hide them does not stop the effects especially those seriously shafted by the eurocrats.
