And he basically got us relegated. I'd have thought you guys were bigger fans of his work tbh.

No he will try and talk geordie man, there was a hell of a lot of people in the west stand concourse i noticed today out of the 33,000. It's a wonder he did not piss of at half time thinking this is ****e.

10 games left, 4 of the bottom 6 to play, 3 of the bottom 6 at home, game in hand on the entire bottom 6, 1 point away from the team 4th bottom....

... Benitez failed to keep Newcastle up.

I think Tufty would've kept Newcastle up.

It's a fair opinion but i disagree. McLaren 24 points from 28 games (and we were getting worse iirc); Benitez 13 points from 10. Almost half a point per game better! Anyway lies, damn lies and all that. I think we can both agree McLaren was not a success at Newcastle and that although it does feel like Sunderland need a change (it saddens me to say but Parkinson looks utterly lost to me) McLaren surely isn't the answer. I'm not sure what is though.

An unofficial adviser to the Americans would be my guess ...
... or perhaps he just fancied giving up his Boxing Day watching a League One kick about.

"What do we need to do to progress?"

I was told months ago that they'd unofficially engaged an ex-England manager to perform a watching brief and advise them.

I assumed that it was Allardyce, due to his inside knowledge of the club, and asked if it was him.

It wasn't denied so, in my mind, that confirmed it.

It now looks as though that was just a smokescreen. I posted about an 'adviser' on RTG and here, and my source didn't slap my hand. So I assumed that it wasn't to be kept top secret. If Tufty is seen again people will naturally assume that he's somehow involved.

One thing I was told, and posted, was that the Americans want local people, preferably supporters, involved throughout the club. I posted other related things as well, took some flak, but it's panned out with the two new directors and the departure of Methven. If, as I've been told, O'Brien becomes involved I'd be very pleased.

If Tufty became involved he'd be 'local' so would fit that particular bill.

Something is definitely happening at the club and I don't really see Donald directing operations.

I used to sit in the Premier Concourse when it was open and McLaren would be a regular at games both in the Premier League and Championship. I always just put it down to the fact he was local and fancied watching a game.

I remember you posting about the advisor to the yanks and came on this thread to mention it.
The only problem was i think you said the mags would be pìssed but if its McLaren, more like pìssing themselves laughing i fear

He still lives in Yarm so not out of the question for him to drive up the road and watch a game of football. There's nowt much on the telly so nowts the matter with him taking 90 minutes out of his day and watching the lads

Some people on this thread putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 but I wouldn't be disappointed if he's being lined up to replace parky

Almost right mate, but it was the Dell situation that would upset the Mags.

They had an offer, on the table, but Ashley hesitated and they pulled out.

Now that Bruce has started well the anti-Ashley protests have ended but it's only a matter of time before shops are once more being shouted at.

I think schteeeve is a tit but I'd welcome any help atm if it worked out :D

It did cross my mind but Boro were at home so I'd guess there's a little more to it.

It's only guesswork although it would tie in with what I was told in September.
