MITO I have a 2 rifles. Finland has loads of guns. The problem goes much deeper than guns. As you say Canadians have lots of guns too, which proves my point. The problem is not guns, it's attitudes and societal.
Black on black gun crime is a cultural\societal\economical set of issues where vastly more people get murdered than in all school shootings combined.
Using school shootings as a watermark for gun control is moronic when Chicago has the gun murder rate it has.

Ironically this ties into the border wall question, where guns and drugs flow across that border. what use are gun control laws if that border is wide open?
Also, what Dems never mention is the rate at which women are raped crossing that border, by Coyotes, that is what they call the gangs shuffling people across that border.
Every one caring guns in the US has given the US Police department to shoot innocent citizens at will- 'kill first before you are killed'.
The policing issue is an interesting one, that has many serious points of contention.

anyway i am not sure all that many guns come across that border. guns are so cheap in the southern states and easy to get or of course steal that i would.be interested to see how.many people.actually think are imports.
on gun crime you need zero tolerance policy and imo someone in Chicago is too soft to get the job done.
It's worse, guns and drugs do come in that way, as there is a large demand for illegal weapons, re Fast and Furious, US Feds put guns out there to be tracked, guns went back across the border and ended up in the hands of cartels

Re the US, people who like guns as a hobby and sport apart, there is a catch 22 situation.
Criminals need guns because they know civilians and police have guns
Civilians have guns cos criminals have guns.
Police have guns cos everyone has guns.
So, as a troubleshooting exercise.
You need to remove the criminals guns first, the illegal weapons
Then it makes it easier for people to feel they can be safe without guns.
Then police might not need to be so heavily armed.

It's a really tricky problem with no easy solution, banning AR15s is pointless. A semi auto pistol is just as deadly at the ranges the ARs were used in schools. The pistols are easy to conceal too and imo pose more of a danger than rifles you can't conceal in your jacket or coat so easily
right now, sadly to say, the US schools need armed guards and need to be searching people, especially people who are not students at that school.
As for students, rather than suspending a 4 year old that makes a gun with his hand or eats toast into the shape of a gun (they are doing this ****?!) they need to look out for kids with mental problems.

The hotel shooting used weapons modified for full auto. Turned out pointless since semi is 10 times more accurate anyway unless you have loads of training.

Put a gun right in the class room.
