Ah, crap. It's a metatarsal, so that's 6 weeks or more depending on the surgery. Back in April. Likely to miss 5 matches, possibly 6 with So'ton.

He's ****ed for the season pretty much .. It takes time to get upto speed on top of the healing process.

He's probably lost his England shirt now.. He had done enough to keep it was looking strong.

    Sad for him

Apparently the normal time for metatarsal recovery is 4-8 weeks before you are playing again, depending on the type of break.

Bugger, he had made such a huge difference to the team. Not just those goals, but his all-round game and organisation and leadership at the back.
    Big loss.

I was just going on what it said the average time out was for footballers with a broken metatarsal. Admittedly I did google it and the source was goal.com, but it said that was time out the side. Physiotherapy is a massive part of the treatment now so general fitness would already be there. The issue would be match sharpness.

It's not season ending, but lookin at our fixtures we're going to have to get the job done without him.

I've broken loads of bones in my feet. It depends where etc. He might be back in 2-3 weeks. Worst case is usually 6 weeks. Not great news but lets not get suicidal. I'd be having a serious look at the youth sides though to see if there are any young right backs who look promising and can press the ****ing ball. Krafth is hard to dislike from a professional perspective but he's just old school and poor for me. I'd play Schar there if not. Or Fernandez who is one of our best crossers and loves pressing the ball.

    Anything but Krafth basically.

I think Jacob Murphy is gash and he'd be ahead of Krafth <laugh>

I really hope that one of the changes that comes in with our new approach is that we start developing the youngsters and start trusting them with game time when the need arises, rather than playing others out of position. The value to us in the long run would be massive.

Indeed but it will take time. First we need to get a better youth team infrastructure in place. Then identify the right talent, then attract the right talent inro the club and THEN develop the talent. Hopefully our new DoF will get things in place, but we probably won't see the reward for at least a couple of seasons - barring any individual stand-out players we might already have.

It seems pretty inconvenievable that a professional footballer would be told to weight bear with a potential unstable fracture in his foot. Even the Sunderland Royal wouldn't do that to him.

My gut feeling is that he has a soft tissue injury. But I can't look into it.

Anyone but Krafth from what he's shown.

I'd rather play Almiron or Murphy rb, but Murphy really is exposed when playing there.

I would expect Howe to go with Krafth... Tbh Krafth was up against I believe Coutinho and buendia yesterday for 45 mins and we didn't concede.

I agree. But I was told to. And that was a London hospital.
Plus it looks like it has been confirmed as a broken bone somewhere. I assume not a major break though

Aye I just worry about where him and Dummett result in us playing the game. Probably unpopular because Dummy is a local lad, but I actually think he presents the same problem to a lesser extent on the other side. They play like an old school full back but the game is more dynamic now. You need to be pressed on and stop inviting teams on top of you. Lets be honest Lascelles and Schar are more than happy to play on the edge of their box too, but both have shown (particularly Schar) they can play the higher line we need to squeeze the game.

I think Murphy is awful wherever he plays. But he does press the ball somewhat and is mobile. Like Nev says in the future it won't be such an issue. We will have our first choice and then because an ethos is installed at all levels, we'll have ready made young players in the same mould to step up. For now I'd be tempted to say to Schar play like a modern full back and enjoy yourself. He fancies himself as a baller anyway. The only knock on it has is it leaves us with no one to step into midfield with the ball and Schar has been doing that well in recent games.

4-6 weeks so hope Manquillo is not as bad as it looked but if both out I agree moving Schar out wide with Lacselles and Burn at the back, Targett LB obviously!
