Steven Caulker is heading to Russia to resurrect his career – and collect a bumper windfall of nearly £1million.

Mirror Football broke the news this morning that the QPR defender was wanted in Russia.

He had a medical today in Marbella with Lokomotiv Moscow, who are at a warm weather training camp.

The stopper, 25, capped once by England in 2012, is then due in the Russian capital next week to finalise his loan switch.

Caulker, currently recovering from a hip injury, is due to play for Lokomotiv for the remainder of their season from March until the end of May.

Under the terms of the deal, Lokomotiv are picking up all of Caulker's wages of around £30,000-a-week to save Championship Rangers cash.

They are also paying Caulker, contracted at Loftus Road until 2018, a joining fee of £500,000.

Lokomotiv, who are 10th in the Russian Premier League, are also dangling an additional £30,000-a-week to play for them.

Caulker has made 14 appearances for QPR this term but not played since October after being farmed out on loan to Southampton and Liverpool last term.

Shocking amount of money to be thrown away on such a useless player.
