Holloway adds striker to R’s squad … Striker Matt Smith moves to QPR from Fulham Forward signs a three-and-a-half year deal He will wear the number 17 shirt QPR have signed striker Matt Smith from Fulham for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal at Loftus Road. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, boss Ian Holloway revealed his delight at adding the experienced front-man to his squad, commenting: “I think every team needs a big, strong centre-forward and Matt fits that bill for us. “He’s hungry; he’s fresh; he’s honest; he’s hardworking; and he’s got a massive personality. “He forces defences into mistakes by his sheer presence, look and size, but he’s more than that, because when he’s on song and scoring goals, there’s so much more to his game. His touch for a big man is absolutely exceptional. “I think someone like Conor Washington will really benefit from Matt joining us, because he’ll allow us to play in a number of different styles, which is what you need in this division. “I’m made up with him joining us – the deal we’ve agreed is sensational value for a player in this window.” Smith, who is ineligible to play against Newcastle United tomorrow (Wednesday) night but could be in line to make his QPR debut against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, is looking forward to starting the next chapter of his career in West London. “QPR is a club with a terrific history and heritage so it’s a big honour for me to be a QPR player,” he told www.qpr.co.uk, “I’m delighted to be here and want to take this fantastic opportunity with both hands. “I want to get back playing regularly and help QPR win games. If my goals can contribute to that, then all the better, but as long as we’re winning games, that’s the most important thing. “I can’t wait to experience what it will feel like to pull on a Rangers shirt and play in front of the fans at Loftus Road.” He added: “I know I’ll be judged on my goal return, but I feel there’s more to my game than that – and having spoken to the manager at length before signing here, he does as well. “I want my all-round game to improve here and I’m confident that’ll prove to be the case.” Smith will wear the number 17 shirt at Loftus Road.
Well that says it all. Isn't he a bit young to be a mercenary looking for one last big pay day? Because make no mistake, he ****s up with us he can kiss goodbye to a return to English football. Perhaps he thinks there's a Harry like replacement in charge.
Well... Smith has signed. I hope he does fantastically well now he's here (and I really, really want to pi$$ the ruperts off).
Sorry but don't players look stupid wearing a logoed hoodie with a perfume manufacturer blazened across his chest.......walking billboards...... Maybe this should be on the rant thread.....
This will stir up a few chickens (and Ted) Matty Taylor goes from Rovers to City for £300,000.. less than we paid for The Time Lord I wonder who got the best deal
Must admit I didn't realise Taylor is 30 years old and Smith "only" 27, would have thought it was the other way around..... Happy to give Smith a chance......
A tx just received from my Fulham mate about Matt Smith : Yeah he's ok ! He's a bit of lump really not very mobile but will cause problems for defences especially in the air. He needs somebody to play off of him . Never really got a run at Fulham he scored 9 goals from 60 game . Very rarely started come on as sub mostly . Any idea how much rangers paid for him ?
Further to my earlier post above, now saying on beeb website that Taylor is 26.........ah well somewhere between 26 and 30, close enough approximation!!!!
