Charlton Athletic have agreed a fee with Millwall over the signing of defender Alex Mitchell, with a three year deal expected to be signed. The South London club have beaten former loan club Lincoln City to a permanent move.

Deal seems to be done

Didnt know much about him up until 15 mins ago, but he’s just the type of defender we need.

Hector / Ness / Terrell were about as sturdy as three wet tissues in the centre of our defence last season.

Jones & Mitchell the first choice CB partnership ?

Not really seen much of him tbh - nowhere near our first team and loaned out by both Rowett and Harris.
Could be good in the future, had a very good season at Lincoln by all accounts, but not Championship standard.

If you locked Kojak in a cell for 24 hours, he'd spend the first 20 hours losing an argument with himself, 3 hours refusing to talk to himself and the last hour he'd be building a new.cell for hom and dicky to live in.
It would be impossible to be a referee for such madness

Encouraging that not only are we doing our business as promised in June, but also signing players on contracts.

This is the most enthusiastic I have felt about a new season since the days Michael Glikstein bought himself a new sheepskin coat.

When does our pre-season schedule kick off?
Unless we have at least six or seven players signed and in the team by that deadline I'm going to remain wholly unimpressed.
Not squad nobodies and "ones for the future". First team players.

Every Summer we play out this costume drama.
Until I see Nathan Jones' new team taking to the field in July markedly stronger than it was in May, I'm not buying the narrative - or a Season ticket.
I'm not toeing the 'loyal fan' ready to be mugged off yet again Party line.

Personally I think they’re doing a decent job - initially getting a proven MANAGER, not coach , and addressing our weakest positions- that being a goalie and now a strong aggressive CB , he wouldn’t be anything else coming from Millwall let’s be honest. More to follow as well

Playing Devil’s Advocate Lardi, we badly needed two new keepers this summer and you can see from the comments of Cambridge United fans this week just how highly rated Mannion is. He’s got to be an upgrade on Isted & AMB, and we would have rightly complained if either had been retained.

Mitchell may not be Raphael Varane, but once again Nathan Jones thinks he is an upgrade on Terrell & Hector.

NJ has proved with Small & Edwardes that he’s a decent judge of a player so far, so I’m happy to go with his judgment until he demonstrates otherwise.

I bow to nobody in my loathing of signing real journeymen to fill the books, noting with wry amusement how certain posters on another forum fell, hook line and sinker, for the so called “Swindon experience “ when we signed Garner, Egbo and Payne etc ….
