Money definitely talks. Hulk signed for Zenit St Petersburg yesterday, I'm pretty sure he wasn't going there for the standard of league or the chance to win the CL But I don't blame him either, the money he'll get will set him, his family and future generations up for life.
I think managerial wise we're weaker, squad wise I'm still uncertain on. We built our team around Modric, every attacking move went through him so naturally losing him comes as a massive blow, I've always said Luka was one of, if not the best player I've managed to see in a Spurs shirt. BUT we now have a player in Dembele, who I hope AVB decides to now build the team around, he doesn't have the creativty of Modric but what he does have is an abundance of skill, an eye for goal and loves to run with the ball going forward, if we can play to his strengths and get the new signings to gel quickly (not easy but they're all experienced in the Prem) and current players already in the squad to perhaps adapt/ improve then I see no reason why we can't maintain top quality attacking football that wouldn't be far different from what we've been lucky enough to witness in the past few seasons.
I started a thread about having done enough in the transfer window and my answer is no. I'd like to wait a while before rating the players but we missed out big time on Willian and Moutinho so overall we have a minus rating.
think we missed out on Moutinho, although some of it was not our fault, but we should have moved earlier, not so sure about Willian
Tigerish little player tots, fights for every ball and dribbles well and scores some good goals. I'm a bit miffed we missed out,he'd have added grit to our play.
Think the problem with Willian was Shakhtar were asking for an insane amount, something like £24m... Shakhtar's a club backed by a wealthy owner so don't need the money, I'm not saying Willian is or isn't worth that amount but you'd have to wonder about paying that sort of price for a player in, with all due respects, a sub-standard league. Very surprised we didn't go for someone like Hoilett who was on a free.
I was reacting to Spurm's earlier post #2. I think Modric would be in my world squad (but behind Iniesta in getting picked for the team), King would have been at least on the fringes if fit. VdV definitely not. At least 20 players ahead of him.
