Still love that goal against Shamrock: Apologies for the music, as always.
I don't disagree with you at all SOS. I'm just not quite convinced yet. It's probably down to the fact that he need more game time. However, on the other hand we've got a player like Tom Carroll, who looks like a 10 year old as spurm says, but in the few times I've seen him, he's looked like he's had something about him of true quality. that bit extra, that makes all the difference. Do you know what I mean?
i can't remember the game, it was one of the Europa games, an early one. It was the first time i'd seen Tom Carroll and my first comment on him was "looks like he's been watching Modric in training". He really reminded me of him. I'm not saying he's in the same class but his style of play was similar.
Like a 10 year old? You sure? The guys looks 7!!! Great prospect though, alongside Caulker, our brightest prospect. Totally see where you're coming from. He's definitely studied Modric. Would love it if he reaches a similar standard But in seriousness, if he can become half or even a quarter of the player Luka is/ was, he'd be a first team reg for years to come.
great signings and of the ones that departed of note were Modric,VDV and King Dembele can add another dimension to our game that Modric could not..there is more than the Modric way of playing King is not world class..he was....now he was becoming a liability...1 good performance in 5 is not good enough if we have aspirations of top 4.....centreback partnerships need time Vert will be a great replacement. VDV everything he can do i think Dembele and Dempsey can do...Dembele showed his class already and Dempsey is no mug in and around the goal. wether we have strengthened or not..i do not know..but i do not think we have gone backwards... if going backwards is based on performances then i do not know how anyone can pick holes in Dembele and Dempseys performances last year..or say that VDV was better than either or Modric in that case aswell....we behave like there is only one way to play football.
King was world class on his day and he had a lot of them in autumn last year which contrubuted to our great run. But I think that was his swansong and he needed to be replaced. Vertonghen is probably the best we could have got as a replacement so I give that an A. Dembele, Dempesy and Ade were bargains and also get As. LLoris too if he is as good as it seems he is. Sig could be an A too but only time will tell. But we really needed Moutinho as well I think. Most of the outs were reasonable business. VdV is an odd case. He is an amazing player on his day but is he really 'world-class' (in the sense that he would be at least on the fringes of the world's 23 for the inter-galactic cup). I'm not sure he is and since he won't fit the new system I think it was right to let him go at this price (unless he was going to be the cover for Ade which he would do better than Defoe).
world class? if VDV is world class,i know you did not say he was, then what are Messi and Ronnie? neither are out of this world..because they are definatley in this world....id say they are world class...just examples for perspective sake.
lets call ourselves MODRIC FC and keep on wallowing in his departure....i would understand if we were behavin like Liverpool..but we are not..we have tried our best in the transfer market........ lol@sniffing at a 16million quid class player in Dembele and the french number 1...resigning 17 goal,12 goal assist man in Ade..ohh and the Ajax captain and player of the year not to mention a player in Clint Dempsey that ripped most PL teams a new arsehole last year..... Modric this Modric that..if a player like Valencia can replace a player like Ronaldo then we will be just fine replacing Modric with Dembele/Dempsey or whoever else!
lot's of small clubs sell their best players just to survive, most of the time it does them no harm, most times they become a better team for it.Modric's gone,we knew he was going this season, now we have to stop going on about it.as someone else said these more than one way to cook an egg
Sorry to be negative, but the transfer window for me was a little disappointing. Losing our best players (mod, VDV) and replacing with inferior players does not excite me and leaves me flat. Yes some good players signed but a weaker first 11 from last year with manager that I have little confidence (tactics to defensive but I hope he does well) . I don,t think we will address the problems in future transfer window . We haven,t in the last 4. Moutinho will never come to Spurs because the power behind the club does not buy marquee players at the market value ,at 25 he will have little sell on price, sorry to be a defeatist but it,s the truth. One of our many PR stunts for fan and manager. It just ain't going to happen. Understandably we have become a selling club as many are.
ambitions ,more like money once he heard last season the Chav's wanted him,he seemed happy with us up to that point.
true, money is a large factor, but not the only. All our best players leave us , yes for cash but also to win things.
Self-fulfilling prophecy though, Sid. Clubs with more money win more trophies, so they get more money. Top players leave because they don't think the club will win anything, so the club can't win anything because it's lost it's best players. All rather circular.
We've 'lost' one talented creative MF who was on the way out all year regardless of how we performed, one talented goalscoring fwd who in an ideal world might have stayed, but was regularly injured and seldom, if ever, lasted 90 mins and was clearly happy to leave for family reasons. We also lost Leds, who despite all the injuries, started last season well, but by the Spring he was struggling badly. In return we have brought in a world-class young keeper, an excellent and versatile young international CB, 2 (potentially) dynamic, young, goalscoring MF/FWD's and an established and versatile international goal-scoring FWD. If you add in Ade to that list then as far as I can see we are in credit. But only my opinion.....
