Tommy proved a loyal honest stalwart defender thru our difficult years. Not exciting but did a job. Wish him all the best and less turbulent more enjoyable footie in his twilight years.
Twilight years - he's only 27! I've turned 32 today. 32!!! OLD!!!! Have to say pleased to A - Get a fee for him. Apparently six figures also Phil Ham's saying on TWTD. B - Frees up wages. C - We're NOT subsidising any of his wages for his new move. Have to say my summary of Tommy = * HOPELESS when he came on the scene under Jewell. Pathetic. * Improved a hell of a lot under Mick but was a never a fan until 14/15 when he had a fantastic season. Still - let the ball bounce far too often for my liking and didn't have anything like the required pace / distribution. Aware Mick is very AV IT Peter Kay out of defence but he will let them use the ball a bit more if their capable of it - ala Webster. All in all good business for both parties - I don't think good enough to be a starter and on far too much to sit on the bench. Good luck.
I turned 46 yesterday...but i still feel i could do a job under Mick (i did actually have a trial for Wimbledon once back in 88, admittedly i wasn't supposed to be there though LOL) I also think that Tommy has been very loyal servant to the club, always gave 100%, and did a good job for us. It's a shame his injuries are starting to catch up with him, as i still feel he could've been a decent squad player at least. Going to the MLS is a very good decision. If he can mange his injuries, can play there for possible another 10 years. I think someone mentioned that if he was that good, why didn;t any premiership clubs come in for him. If i remember rightly, i'm sure someone did a few years back (Burnley maybe when they got promoted?) Anyhoo...i definitely wish him all the best, and hopefully will see him at the World cup in 2022 with Monty leading the line
Happy Birthday Westy, as for Tommy I think this is a bad move for us, Webster has turned into a sick note and Chambers isn't getting any younger so we let an experienced 27 year old go, maybe I'm just not clever enough to understand, good luck Tommy sorry to see you go.
Happy Birthday Westy and belated bests to Stretchy. Twilight as in footballing years! At 32 I was playing for a Malaysian state team, got to national finals...2 matches in tropical heat in one day, totally wrecked, got back to my traditional wooden house and nailed my boots to the roof....still there I expect!
Ha thanks all - guess we'll see re Tommy. Apparently in the USA they publish all players earnings of wages, so be very interesting as to what his new club pay him.
20 year old striker from non league Stratford Town is having a trial with the club next week.. Apparently Coventry are also very interested in him.
There's nothing like setting your sights high and yet again this is nothing like setting your sights high, different transfer window same old bullocks. EVANS OUT!
Looks like Flynn Downes will be going out on loan. I can't understand this one. So we send one of our youngsters in out in a season with nothing to play for who was in the first team at the start of the season getting rave reviews whilst we have a midfield injury crisis and we play a journeyman midfielder who weve signed on a short term contract and a loan player in his place. Just f****** take a risk for a change Mick and put them in the team!!
I see we've let a few of our youngsters go out, either on loan, or permanent. Currently, out the door is.. Out Patterson - Loan to NZ. From what i've seen of him playing for NZ, i've never rated him George Fowler - Permanent to Aldershot Downes - Loan to Luton. Now this one surprises me, with the length of our midfield injury list. Was one of our better players at the start of the season In Gleeson - will be an ok squad player Kai Brown - 16yr old from Grays. Has been getting rave reviews from the non league voices Barry Cotter - 19yr old RB from Ireland. Could be anything, but does look like Neymar (LOL) Carter-Vickers - CB loan Drinan - 19yr old striker permanent Looking likely Carayol - 6m contract from Forrest. I do remember him a few years back smashing them in for Boro from a wide position, so if fit, could be a decent move. Have i missed anyone?
Going to disagree with you here a bit ITFCPTC - while I think Downes has potential, I think it's a sensible move out this. He's had good games, he's had poor games. Yes, he's young but this should really help push him on and be better next season. Had a few injuries also - lets see if he tears it up for Luton. Mustafa Carayol on a free is the word on the street - quality player on his day. Pacy / tricky direct winger. Infact, I cannot recall one in his mould the entire time under Mick.... could be a little gem. Low risk anyway so no issue here from me. His main issue is crossing - wayward end product after a good burst. Sort that we have a class player at this level - trouble is, I'm sure others have tried. At worst, FAR better than Sears and something different last 25.
Only word to describe Carayol: Enigma Absolute epitome of 'Caviar and cabbage' as I fully expect him to be class one week and hopeless the next. Then the likelihood is he'll go and join the likes of Burton/Bolton etc. on a free in the summer, much like our recent January additions of Feeney, Pringle, Diagouraga etc.
I'd rather have a player thats a 9 one week and a 3 the next, then have 11 players who are 6's week in week out.
Alas, I think I totally agree with what stuart Watson said in the EADT today http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town-transfer-deadline-day-january-2018-1-5377628
Completely agree with that article sums it up perfectly. We sign a load of players on short term contracts or loans and send our players out on loan. Half of these players aren't exactly pulling up any trees yet we're stranded in mid table and send out on loan a player who played so well in the first few games of the season!!
