QPR boss ready to put his faith in Manning

Mark Warburton has given a clear indication that Ryan Manning will start the season as QPR’s first-choice left-back.

Summer signing Lee Wallace, who played under R’s boss Warburton at Glasgow Rangers, is close to recovering from a hip problem.

But Manning has impressed Warburton while filling in for the Scot and appears to have earned himself a run in the side regardless of whether Wallace is soon available.

Manning did well after being switched from midfield to left-back towards the end of last season and now has the chance to make the position his own under the new manager.

“Ryan Manning has done really well. He’s grabbed his opportunity and done really well with it,” Warburton said.

“No-one’s got a divine right to wear the shirt. Lee would be the first to tell you that and Ryan’s put up a really strong fight for the shirt.”

Meanwhile, Warburton is hoping to sign Scott McKenna from Aberdeen, who have rejected an offer for the Scotland defender

Now that is a little worrying.

Manning is great going forward, but you need to be able to defend in the championship and he can't do that for toffee.

I think that this shows (1) how desperate Man Utd are for a centre back that they are convinced they can build a team around, and (2) just how good Leicester are at getting a good price for a player. I'm sure I have read somewhere that Lewis Dunk will be on their radar, maybe Leisner is on the radar as well or of that of Brighton as a potential replacement.

I don't see that 3rd Keeper, Barnes?, on that list.

He was promoted as the 3rd Keeper when he first came to go in the 1st team squad as the replacement for one of Lumley, Kelly and Dueng who was to go on loan. Dueng went out on loan again.

So a very good observation.

We do have a missing keeper!

I like the fact that we’ve given loan players the numbers 6,8 and 9. This should give them a sense of belonging and that they’re not just here to make up the numbers. Hopefully they will play as they are QPR players.
