Agreed - but imagine if we'd been run sensibly when we got promoted with Leicester, where would we be now......
Derek McInnes provides Scott McKenna transfer update as Aberdeen boss admits fight to hold onto him The Dons turned down £7m last summer but McInnes accepts a lower deal with add-ons could be accepted if it arrives. please log in to view this image (Image: SNS) Derek McInnes accepts Aberdeen face a fight to keep £7million-rated Scott McKenna ahead of the English transfer deadline. Nottingham Forest and QPR have been in talks with the Dons over the Scotland international. Neither side met Aberdeen’s valuation – believed to be upwards of £7m – but McInnes expects further moves and new clubs bidding before the English window closes next Thursday. The Dons boss, who sees his side take on Chikhura in the second leg of their Europa League tie tonight, said: “I spoke to Scott on Tuesday and he’s just focusing on the game. “There is a week to go in the window in England so it will all start to heat up now. please log in to view this image (Image: SNS) “There’s a real possibility clubs will come back in and every chance there could be more clubs than have been in for him already. We’re not encouraging offers but we anticipate there will be others.” Aberdeen have turned down Swansea, Celtic, Hull and Aston Villa in recent windows. He said: “The valuation hasn’t been met as it stands, so that’s something I have to leave for the chairman and board. “I have a high opinion of Scott, he’s the best defender this country has and he’ll get to 50 caps pretty quickly. He has a lot of attributes and still a lot to learn but if someone is going to learn it will be him.” please log in to view this image (Image: NEWSLINE MEDIA LIMITED) McInnes is in no doubt that McKenna’s value will rocket as soon as he goes to England like it did with Virgil van Dijk. He said: “We have had this situation before with our league and have seen so many players go down to England where there valuation has increased pretty quickly. “Sometimes people have just played a handful of games and it has shot up. Look at Van Dijk, once he was in a Southampton strip he was worth a lot more. “John McGinn is another and then you have Kenny McLean at Norwich. You can see why Celtic are digging their heels in over Kieran Tierney.”
£5M from Freeman £1.5 - 2M from Furlong Whatever we can get for Luongo and Leistner. Think they'll sell at £5M, with add-ons. He could be worth £20M in a couple of seasons if all the reports you hear are true......
If we can only sell Freeman for 5M then buying an investment for that price with an FFP cloud over us seems ludicrous.
Yeah, but we need to meet the FFP demands. The Freeman etc, money covers losses. Hope that you are right, though.
Think it is standard practice to depreciate the cost of player purchases over the length of their contracts.
"Think it is standard practice to depreciate the cost of player purchases over the length of their contracts." Surely this means that Boswinga stills owes the club money!!
Lots of very positive articles on Eze. I just hope that nobody decides to make a "very good offer" which we we "cannot refuse" before the tansfer widow shuts on Thursday. https://www.planetfootball.com/tren...the-star-quality-to-complement-qprs-cohesion/
Eze has had a season last year where he was hot and cold in a team that flattered to deceive. I think that in order to continue his development, he needs to stay for a year or two, build up his strength, confidence and experience thinking of moving on. Hoping that Cameron and Rangel will offer advice and guidance - along with MW and his team, and hopefully he will see how Freeman's career kicks on in the premiership before deciding on where he wants his career to develop. Planet football offered a good read - however I do hope that the journalist isn't trying to get a young player built up into something he isn't just yet or ready for.
Handed in a transfer request now apparently. We can't really compete if other clubs are after him as well can we? Aberdeen reject his request. Always works out well keeping a player who doesn't want to stay.
Back of the *** packet estimates, but... Let's assume we've had around £11m come in from Freeman, Furlong, Smith, Lunogo* and Leistner*. *Working assumptions that they go. We've also seen 14 players depart. If we assume the average wage of the departing players was £20k** (or £14.5m per year), taking this average wage figure down to £10k** for the new arrivals would save us an additional £7m per annum, bringing the total savings to £18m so far. According to this excellent article on LoftForWords we needed to save about £16.4m this year. That would give us a little bit of wiggle room to now spend a small amount of cash. **Figures all made up just to make the point, but trying to demonstrate how we've probably covered the losses for this year and a little more. If we structure an offer for McKenna sensibly so that only £2m max is hitting our accounts this year, with more in future years, we could afford him, especially if there is a high level of confidence (which there seems to be) that we could sell him on in future years for a profit.
IF we do sign him, lets hope he doesn't become another Ned Zelic (the only Aussie not to settle in London)
