QPR boss ready to put his faith in Manning
By West London Sport 31/07/2019

Mark Warburton has given a clear indication that Ryan Manning will start the season as QPR’s first-choice left-back.

Summer signing Lee Wallace, who played under R’s boss Warburton at Glasgow Rangers, is close to recovering from a hip problem.

But Manning has impressed Warburton while filling in for the Scot and appears to have earned himself a run in the side regardless of whether Wallace is soon available.

Manning did well after being switched from midfield to left-back towards the end of last season and now has the chance to make the position his own under the new manager.

“Ryan Manning has done really well. He’s grabbed his opportunity and done really well with it,” Warburton said.

“No-one’s got a divine right to wear the shirt. Lee would be the first to tell you that and Ryan’s put up a really strong fight for the shirt.”

Meanwhile, Warburton is hoping to sign Scott McKenna from Aberdeen, who have rejected an offer for the Scotland defender

He doesn’t have a choice but this is a more positive headline.

I like Manning but don’t think he’s a full-back.

Manning is a very decent footballer, but doesn't seem to have a natural position. As you say, I don't think full-back is it.

Think he’d be best suited on the left in an old-fashioned 4-4-2. In this formation, he could play in the three in midfield. Still an upgrade on Bidwell.

When he signed I thought he was more a central midfielder but got chucked out on the wing, then make-shift left back. Although I'm surprised our reserve keepers haven't been used as make-shift full backs, every one else seems to get a go. Anyway i really like Manning he's got some class in his passing ability, particularly his crossing.

MW must think we are all about 5yrs old. Love of his life Wallace is knacked without a ball being kicked, so has to big up Manning who isn't even a left back as he got rid of our only other left back

I don’t disagree, but who would you prefer to be left back? Bidwell, or a guy who can get up and down the pitch and cross the ball?
