£8.8m for a defender plus £10m for a striker? Either McNally's had a change of heart and started using some sort of Mexican accounting standards for our budget or there is going to be some significant movement out... I'm guessing in the way of loans.

Neil talked up RvW quite a bit - to my mind that was with the clear intention of painting Ricky as able to play on his own up top, but in a very different style (e.g. slipping off defenders, there's no way Ricky would be able to bully) and he was singing Ricky's praises in respect of work rate and attitude (tbf, I've never really doubted either, it's just high work rate wasn't necessarily his game).

To me that sounds like either Neil's advertising him for loans, though it seems a bit late, or he genuinely is considering using RvW on his own up top
I think AN recognises that the Wolf is seriously short of confidence and is attempting to build him up again. Let;s hope it works

RvW played really well early on under CH, including getting physical with defenders and excellent movement, but he seemed to be ground down by the poor service he was getting. We have players now much better suited to providing that service, so fingers crossed it works out.

But that's just it "God alone knows why" it's just ridiculous hyperbole & I wasn't the first to react to that either but as usual get singled out for the quote reply sheesh

It was the way in which you and the other poster reacted/overreacted (some might argue I have done the same in my response!)to his post that made me reply in addition to what seems to be a trend at the moment for everyone to try and bury someone else for there opinions. Yours being the later of the two meant that it was yours that I responded to, it could have just as easily been 1950's comment I replied to. You are right of course it was hyperbole on his part, which makes sniping at him all the more strange, it was probably 1950's "So you know better..." that annoyed slightly more than your agreement with it.

But here we are arguing about nothing! Have we signed anyone yet??

Bah!

Not sure where to put this, but Chamberlin's Sky Sports article about the weekend says that if we avoid defeat Sunday Neil will have set a new club record of 13 away games undefeated. Fingers crossed - it would be nice to have a positive record broken for once!

The fly in the ointment is the Grabban situation. I don't think Neil wanted to sell him because it would cost more to replace him with someone similar than we will get for him - hence why his valuation (£8m) is frankly laughable for a player of his ability. But in the current market, I suspect we feel we might get something close to that. I'd sell him for a packet of Hobnobs but if we get £6m for him I'd take it, laugh, put it towards Afobe and buy two packets of Hobnobs.

If Wolves get what they want, I'm not sure we'll be able to afford a solitary hobnob leave alone two packs!

Bah!

AN talking up RvW might equally be a case of needs must. Jerome is clearly first choice at the moment unless a new player comes in and displaces him. But in the event of an injury, it's RvW who is most likely to be leading the line. Getting any kind of confidence into RvW is therefore clearly important.

I can't help feeling that the lack of confidence in RvW has to do with the service he receives rather than in himself. AN seems to be working hard on that though. Meanwhile, we seem to have a bid for Kalidou Koulibaly rejected by Napoli. This from Vital Norwich:

"Norwich City have had a 12m euro bid for French defender, Kalidou Koulibaly rejected by Serie A side, Napoli according to Sky Italia. The report suggests that Napoli could be holding out for as much as 15m euros for the 6'5' central defender. Koulibaly is also a reported target for Southampton, who have been heavily linked with Celtic's Virgil van Dijk following the hoops' Champions League exit on Tuesday evening."

Call me an old cynic if you like, but having followed City for nigh on 45 years I've a pretty good idea how this transfer window will end. Having been linked to the likes of Van Dijk, Mbokani, Destro, Koulibaly, Afobe etc. etc. in all probability IF we bring anyone in at all now it will be that Palarse old timer Gayle or someone of a similar ilk. Don't get your hopes up guys because you'll be heading for a fall.

Checking on Wolves' fans forums, there's a rumour going round that Afobe is going to hand in a transfer request today and we're about to submit a fourth bid. So I don't think we're quite done and dusted, but I agree we shouldn't get our hopes up.

The problem with Koulibaly is that it's a little merry-go-round, with Saints wanting VDV, Celtic wanting Koulibaly, etc. But we don't have anyone that anybody wants...
