Call me an old cynic if you like, but having followed City for nigh on 45 years I've a pretty good idea how this transfer window will end. Having been linked to the likes of Van Dijk, Mbokani, Destro, Koulibaly, Afobe etc. etc. in all probability IF we bring anyone in at all now it will be that Palarse old timer Gayle or someone of a similar ilk. Don't get your hopes up guys because you'll be heading for a fall.

I suspect you may well be right, KIO, having supported City for only 43 years.

God I'm starting to feel young here, it's only been 42 & 1/2 years for me!!!
Although I suspect you are correct, I have a feeling this year may be different (but I've thought that before too)!

I think it's widely accepted that Hooper isn't the guy to play on his own up front. Enough people have said it for me to think that that can't be changed. He is a classy player though so it's a shame we can't accommodate him. I also wonder how many times this year we will be chasing a game and perhaps want to change to a system that would benefit him?

That said, and contrary to what some have stated on here, I think I saw something that suggested he isn't a good impact sub. His goals come in spells where he is getting good playing time and he hasn't had that with us. I might be wrong - will try to dig out whatever stats gave me that impression. I also suspect that Hooper wouldn't be satisfied with being a well-paid benchwarmer. It may seem daft now but he came to Norwich for one reason - to try to get an England call-up by playing in the PL. The guy is ambitious. I suspect if he goes somewhere with a system to suit he'll score bucket loads and we'll be left feeling we didn't get the best out of him.

I think that sums up my opinion too! I agree that Hooper is at his best and scores most when he plays consistently, not as an impact sub...

This is something I'll never understand on this board. The pedants who wish to argue the "your presenting this as fact" or "So you know more than Alex Neil"
At the end of the day unless you're Colwho Mikey and you're stating FACTS! Most people are just stating opinions, in FML post quoted above it is perhaps a slight exaggeration bourn out of a degree of exasperation that a player who shows many deficiencies and now a seriously petulant streak, kept getting picked.

If we had a poll on here of who we think is the better player 90+% might say Hooper. So is he really stating a fact? or saying he knows more than our manager? or just making a colourful point about why he can't comprehend Grabbans rating in any managers mind?

Some do try to state facts, some even opinions as facts, but really if your trying to tell me that FML has said he knows more than AN from his previous post rather than just an opinion bourn of frustration and anger at one player, it seems a bit silly. To me it's clearly opinion and that he thinks it has been an error on AN part but maybe his only one so far. That I agree with him to an extent in so much as I really don't see a great deal in Grabban that would make me want to play him, I can state that without the need for qualifications or experience inside the game. I can even say that I think AN has made mistakes, Jesus he's young for a manager and learning and if he's really great will continue to do so for the next 30-40 years. But I trust him to learn from them. Whether having managed us to promotion whilst using Grabban, AN would agree it was a mistake, is unlikely and whilst we all know (Sorry not a fact, think) Hooper the better player, we all perhaps acknowledge too that our system may suit Grabban a little better.

ultimately Grabban has shown himself to be a complete horsesarse, but if we don't sell him then whilst he will need to earn respect from us all again, as with Bass and Hoolihan there can be a way back, that is if he ever gets good enough to appease us all and bags a few goals. After all AN knows best, so if he stays and plays again he'll deserve our full support(well fullish and not entirely enthusiastic support!)

Bah!
Thanks. Bit of common sense. Of course it's an opinion.

Its purely for Sundays game. Don't get your hopes up about other stuff and I dare say it will be a straight bat regarding transfers/Grabban. It starts at 12.30pm I believe anyway.

Edit - make that 1.30pm

Hooper will go out on loan and will score a hatful in the champ as he will be the main man in a team shaped to suit his strengths at a lower level.

I had hoped that he would be utilised in more of a no.10 role for us combining his skill and vision with some creativity and link up play with Jerome and the ability to knock a few in when chances present themselves..

What has changed for me is that Wes has started the season in fantastic form. I honestly thought that he would struggle as he did not exactly star in our relegation season and he is now two years older but fair play to him happily he has thus far proven me wrong. I thought that if Wes struggled Hoops could be a decent alternative (or TBF Redmond) but Wes is performing and AN does not see hoops as an alternative.

I suspect that reading between the line AN possibly feels that Hoops could have worked a bit harder pre season to get himself into contention - surely he can't be unaware of the manager's preference for quick, mobile strikers and whilst it is unreasonable to expect him to turn into Usain Bolt overnight speed and conditioning are things which can be worked on (we have a brilliant sports science set up at Colney to assist with this) and he hasn't worked as hard as the boss wants so maybe this is why he is down the pecking order.

There's a thread on our board about the possibility of Jordi Amat joining you guys? Anyone here heard anything on this?

So after another day of rumour and debate about the merits, or otherwise, of certain individual players what do we know? Turner has gone meaning that we now only have the required 25 man squad but only have 6 specialist defenders. Grabban is suspended and Hooper is still here leaving us with 5 strikers when all we really need is 3 or 4 plus Loza and on top of that the Club are after another striker. As of 6pm today there are only 5 days left in the transfer window and we know from previous experience that deals in the last 48 hours can be extra expensive. Anyone else getting a wee bit concerned?
