I think Payne is the one Reading will be after as they have wanted him for a while and Michael Hector may be OK.

wasn't it £750,000 fee with a 25% sell on fee and more money for appearances and getting capped for England earning us up to a £1million and Jackson sold for £600,000 that will rise to £1million again for appearances and another 10% sell on clause? ;)

If I remember correctly Jarvis was settled around the £250k mark? He was the player that PS promised would play for England though so I could imagine the clauses are stacked high. Perhaps that's another reason Wolves are clinging onto him like they are, needing to secure enough money for their own coffers. Not bad for us though. I just hope he doesn't slip quietly to another club for 2.5m.

Does anybody have any idea what timescale Allen was hoping to complete these deals in? I'd love to see some new names help us batter the clowns on the 4th.

wolves had already rejected a 4 mil bid for jarvis (from hammers) I believe think the article said they were looking closer to 6 mil be that what they think hes worth or what they need given the clauses. anything 4 mil up would do nicely for gills if we do get 25%, cool mil in the coffers maybe enough to stop us having to sell payne and gazza to raise some fund that we need for improvements

No he's not and as such he should just stay with us for the next 5 - 10 years get some experience and 1st team football.

Am I the only one who actually wants Jack Payne to leave? Never really thought he was anything special and never really filled the Kevin Maher role that he was meant to. I'd much rather have the money than Payne.

You say that tongue in cheek but I think he far from the finished article and I don't believe he is ready for championship level let alone the Premiership

I know what you are saying Luke but I think you only see what Payne provides when he is absent. Without him last season we were more defensively all over the place than we were when he was in the team.

I don't want him to leave but I would rather have cash in the bank, he does have a tendancy at least in my eyes to get lost at times. His ability on the ball is great and his vision can be outstanding (which I am sure is what big clubs look for in young prospects) but his tactical knowledge and fitness are questionable.

I am sure however that a Championship/Premier league side have the money, facilities and experts to turn him into the finished article much quicker than we could.

When you look at players like Jarvis, Bertrand, Simeon etc they were all good players for us, great in fact but imagine if transfers were banned, would they be as good now staying with us as they are with their megabucks top tier clubs? I doubt it.

I love it when an ex Gills player does good, and while I will be very sad to see Paulo go the thought of maybe one day seeing him play in the premiership and at international level makes me very proud of our little club.

Isn't that more to do with playing a CDM role rather than Payne himself?

Surprised he did not get a neck injury last year the amount of time he watched the hoofball going over his head from defence !

He is an important player and is better than Maher was, his work rate is good and we always look in trouble when he does not play.

Yes and no... We have tried other players in that position and noone else was as effective as Payne (Jackman was close)

What I wonder is if we have already signed Reeves when will we announce it, do we have other players signed or will we wait till we have more than 1 as that is normally how we like to do it.

Not to be negative but I still feel we can find someone better than Payne in that position, if we go out and look for one we can someone better than him

Dont want to see Payne go but 600 to 700k is a very good price for him. I would be happy with that, can get 2 or 3 decent players with just that let alone the money from the imminent gazza sell. Cant see that we have signed Reeves already. will take some time as Allen will want to see what we have take players on trial before offering deals. Dont want to offer out contracts before seeing them first hand unless there proven at out level of course

i wouldn't believe to much of what KSN say, as they have just picked this up from different forums about tongue in cheek comments from martin allen on talksport last night, when he said...i spoke to kenny jacket recently about a couple of his players availability...thats it, so read what you want into that ???
