Market value though.......

No, I'm not going there again ffs <laugh>

The market this summer was ridiculous, and everyone 'overpaid' compared to what the same players would have gone for only 12 months ago.

It's not a disaster as long as most of the cash recirculates within our own domestic football pyramid.

You are (possibly deliberately) confusing two different things. One is price inflation, the other is overpaying. The point of this chart is not to compare players to their value 12 months ago but to what they should have gone for in the current market.

Bolasie and Bailly were terrible deals, obvious to everyone at the time. And Stones was clearly overpriced based on his actual performances (not hypothetical future performances where he fulfills 110% of his alleged potential). This just puts a number on it.

I dunno but what really matters is keeping players fit first and the performances.

Everton have very good fill back that are not fit a lot of the time. Lucky if bothered, barkley and a few others already so adding a good cb and cm and a keeper will aid them.

Liverpool got the gk and cb and rw. Its how it all combines thats important.
Neither of us got a marquee signing but could Hart have been theirs, I would say yes. See what tobes thinks [PJS not around anymore?]

Quite shocked you've not gone for another top quality first team striker. If lukaku gets injured for any prior of time, Valencia (albeit good to step in as cover for a few games) isn't going to be a constant goal threat and I don't see goals coming from anywhere else in your team. Barkley can chip in with 5 bolasoe doesn't have great record eother
I agree mate, that was the biggest failing for me.

We needed competition for Lukaku not just cover and I don't think Valencia is of a level to provide the competition that Lukaku needs, nor is good enough to cover for him should he have an injury.

I know I'm late to the discussion because of not being on here for a while but I was surprised that the club went for the quick fix rather than looking to build for the future: a journeyman manager who will look to be off in say 3 years [?], old[ish] players, your example Williams being a case in point. I'm guessing Koeman wanted a DoF hence signing Walsh who unearthed Vardy and Mahrez and very few others.

I'm not wumming here. I have blues in the family some of whom are perplexed, others seeing it as a quick fix but happy as long as it provides a decent base to build on.
They were definitely looking for the finished article for the first team additions, and resale value didn't seem to be on the agenda, so yeah I agree.

have not seen pjs in a good while you are right.

I dunno

LFc have work to do to improve but i don't think its a "disaster" like some on the whole internet want to call it. It is what it is. We need to right guys at the right time in their careers and if that means klopp waits til january and tries for dahoud again or pulisic is what he wants fine. I dunno. .sule all these names... maybe thats the case. The reality is our best ever signings and even more recent best signings have not been marque outside torres and suarez.

I'm sure when i was very young LFC signing hanson, nicol etc were who? conversations. Hyppia, finnan, alonso, maschernao.. all the same.

My LFC first 11 right now is:

Karius
Clyne Matip Lovern Milner
Henderson Can wijnaldum
Mane Origi coutinho

I've not seen it play, there are 3/4 names that are scarily weak in there but all can do a job... then theres 2 that are new and hope they work.

I really don't know that this is the team for klopp's style or if this is a fit in around team or what i'd lik eto see but not what klopp thinks etc... I see a working running midfield but not much control. I see a high intensity front line. I see a RB and RCB that klopp probably really wants.. but i think 4/5 names max will survive in the medium term. I really don't think it will deliver the results LFC fans want 8th to 6th?

In an ideal world we'd see a 50mil striker and all the names bandied about come in and take those slots but we are where we are.

for me everton could be better than us for first half of season

stelkenburg
coleman williams jagielka baines
gueye barry
miralles? Barkey Bolaise
Lucky

seems to be there's the solidity that koeman will want to make them hard to beat (2 goals conceded in 4 so far.) then theres 4 guys to go chase the goals. I doubt it will stay together long as an outfit but this season it could deliver european football... Its better than southamptons team last year and west hams this year (IMO)

astro you need to quietly drop the bailly bashing. he's a really good player.

The perceived value of any deal is subjective and depends on how the player performs in the team who's purchased him.

To say X player is overvalued by £Y based on selective stats is absolute bollocks.

Bailly looks a cracking CB from what I've seen of him btw.

I was very surprised we didn't take Hart tbh. Not that I'm a massive fan of him, but as a statement of intent I could see how that could have worked.

mito - I agree we've never had a marquee signing, I'd even argue that, at the time of signing, neither Torres nor Suarez were marquee. It's why I don't expect any but always wonder why other LFC fans do.

tbh I think Everton fans [mostly] got a little too excited a little too soon. It's baby steps to start with, get the new stadium then push on from there.

If Moshiri and Koeman have given you all a good feeling about the direction the club's now taking then that's something to hold on to after years of Bill's reluctance to move with the times. Thoughts go out to him as well, incidentally, because he isn't in the best of health <ok>

I don't agree mate. We got excited by the vision that's been shared by Moshiri. The stadium and player investment being the 2 prime areas.

The club have driven their marketing using this vision. Season tickets this year came in a presentation box with "Nothing will be the same" emblazoned across the front.

As I said mate, I know some who are happy with the change, others who are holding back on the excitement until something actually materialises. As reds we've been in the 'new owners promising the world' position ... twice. Let's hope he delivers on it - most reds I know want a strong Everton. We got what most of us wanted, an Anfield refurb, you'll get what you want a new stadium.

well... I think in the past we were the dog proverbials so everyone was making a step up to join us. I can't really think in the mid 80s say who would LFC sign as a world star and why. I mean I understand the sentiment by older reds fans but football was different back then and I can't really think outside of legendary names what we would be buying. I'm sure shnakly never thought must have bobby moores this summer for instance. Michael laudrup almost joined us at one point. big? not really.

SInce then we have been spiralling down, rebuilding and spiralling further. IMO torres and squarez were top top players we laid our hands on and got a serious statement of intent. They are the closest for me to the signing of shearer by blackburn in the mid 1990s. that was a huge statement at the time. he wasn't a goals scoring legend but everyone knew what he was and he exploded instantly once he got there.

The reality is who was "marquee" for cheslea at the outset of the abramovich era? Cech, drogba, robben? not really IMO... when he went and bought shevchencko that could be considered marquee for me.

So what is marquee anyway.. a top top player or a vanity buy?

IMO mane is the kind of exciting player LFC fans crave. Players who create excitement and belief for me are vital.

just the cynic here tobes but................... a cheap box (i can give you the website to buy some if you want) all the clubs do it

You must log in or register to see images

The company that does it i met at a trade show, there are 2/3 companies that do it in the uk.....

a box is just dressing. Marketing is just dressing.... the REAL show is in whats done not whats talks up as what might be done

sorry... but G&H deffo clouds my vision... when the guy ponies up for real change then get excite. right now you should just be looking forward to the new season cos you should be seeing much improved results.

No mate, I didn't mean the box was the signifier, it was the marketing message they've been using that I was referring to.

A lot of Blues are now sceptical post the window JB. They're wondering if this guy is for real. I've been assured that he is, but the proof of the pudding and all that....

A stadium announcement would see the scepticism die off I reckon.

An announcement? Surely you mean a spade in the ground <whistle>

I thought the deal was agreed 3 weeks ago? Just waiting for the presentation box for the deed to arrive?
