Also run the risk of going for players that haven't yet played in the PL, at least with Mane we know he can perform well the PL.
Cheaper but any better? Seen Markovic struggle when coming in, he was cheaper. Lallana was cheaper as wel.
Yeah ah we can all point to people that will be cheaper but does it mean they will be better though?
Our whole scouting system seems to need an overhaul to be honest, far too lazy at identifying targets before they have played in prem or for a big club. But Klopp has a decent enough transfer record and if he's given green light for mane at a high price then h le obviously rates him well enough.
I'd rather we try to add a very good player like mane than take another couple of risks on two 20 year olds for £15m each who both might flop and we end with no one decent.
Are we still in for Ante Coric? Croatian lad who klopp apparently spoke to. He is technically gifted and the quoted price is 11 million.
my sauces say that we were never interested.
sure thats always a risk, as is ending up with a dud from the prem as we've proved.
Every transfer is a risk. I'm just thinking this fee is well over what it should be.

So we're back at what is a £30mil player these days??
I know he's slightly over but for arguments sake - what is a £30mil player now the money is insane?
I'd say it's a £15mil player 2 years ago. Therefore the fee is about right![]()
Cost isn't just about how good a player is. It's also based on how good he could potentially become, go along left on contract, how important he is to the selling club.
Mane ne has years to go on contract and was key player at saints so he was always going to be a bit more expensive to us, where as saints fans think he's gone cheaply.
We we sold sterling for 50m, was he worh it? No... But he was young and had long time on contract so the price was inflated. Who cares really? Like I said earlier, unless it stops up getting a LB or CM then doesn't matter if it was 25 30 or 35 really
£35m is about right. That makes him the most expensive player we've ever sold which you can't complain about with climate and the potential he has.
He can be very incosistent but on his day he's borderline unplayable, such a joy to watch in the flesh too as those who attend games will soon find out. Can be frustrating at times and if he misses a chance or 2 then it seems to get to him.
He does have potential to be genuinely world class though so could look like a snip in a year or 2.
Genuine question, does anyone here think that instead of constantly buying from us you would be better off investing money in your scouting/infrastructure instead? Surely would be better long term planning?
Fancy you lot to do really well this year tbf. Top 4 min I reckon.
I think a lot of top teams with money are lazy. It's far easier for us, city, United, Chelsea etc to buy someone from 30m from you guys than try and find him 2 years before for 10m.
Not it only that, but different pressure. No disrespect, but when we sign players we need them to make an immediate impact where as at you guys they have that bit more time to adjust because expectation isn't as high. Look at Kante, Mahrez, Vardy, at Leicester they had far less pressure to make an impact so could develop

Agree with most of that to an extent and take your point about different pressures etc.
I just think that if you were run as well as we seem to be with regards scouting/academy etc. then you wouldn't need to be spending almost £100m on players from us!!
100mil is a snip for a crop of players when we're selling our players at 75mil and 50mil![]()
