This is the thing - if we want to get the best out of Benteke, then we have to play a different way. Why is Rodgers hell bent on making Benteke work but didn't do the same for Mario? Mario is far more talented and has been poorly managed - he has been poor himself but we could have got far more out of him.

I'd sooner keep Mario and actually use him properly than spend £25m plus on Benteke.

And signing Benteke pretty much nullifies the strengths of Coutinho and Firmino. With regards to his goals, there's a common theme - he scores when the team plays to his style i.e. long balls and crosses.
According to RHC and his mate, it isn't Rodgers. Its the owners/Gordon.

I'd be surprised if Rodgers is having alot of say in this summers transfers, yes he'll get an input but I don't see him having the power to push through transfers like he did last summer. Surely part of the meeting was to discuss how poor his transfer record was and that the players he wanted haven't worked out.

I read a quote from Rodgers yesterday where he spoke about us making to many signings last season who were not fluent in English and needed to make a very big adaption. He feels that created an unwanted transition period.

So when the club had the end of season meeting Rodgers will have mentioned this and the club will have concluded that signings from abroad must be kept to a minimum.

A striker is vital so they will think 'ok lets not mess this up, lets sign proven PL'.

They looked through the goal scorers list and saw Costa, Kane, Aguero and Benteke. The other three are not realistic targets so they choose Benteke.

Benteke has been selected based on a stat comparison between him and other striers purely in the PL.

How does he explain Balotelli and Lovren?

If fact the most successful player of last summers buys came in from abroad, Can. In fact the only players I can see this being an excuse for would be Markovic, Manquillo and Moreno.

Osvaldo

Signed for £15m

Plays 14 games

Contract terminated

****ing joke of a club

Fortunately they are small enough the media will move on after a few hours

Shame about Coates but don't think was suited to our defence which is fair enough.

Decent it in a deep defence where his pace and lack of mobility won't be exposed

He was a more technical player than given credit for but when he got taken apart by Oldham and skertl had to take on his man I thought wtf have you been at for 2 years?

I don't think he's going to just suddenly blossom now.

That would be another stupid, brainless comment from Rodgers because the players that let us down last season were 'PL Proven' players he signed and the senior players already at the club.

That's interesting - some of the Echo lads and The Times have said Benteke is Rodger's number 1 target. Also, the owners have kept Rodgers in the job and allowed him to pick his new coaches so I think he still has some power and influence.

Either way, whoever is in charge of this transfer should be embarrassed.

Your hatred of Southampton is very strange. You are aware that Liverpool and Southampton aren't major rivals, right? It seems to be based on the fact that they took the piss out of Liverpool by getting £50million for three average/crap players. Surely that's Liverpool's fault!
