Manchester United beat Liverpool to agree £21.4m deal with Benfica for Nicolas Gaitan
Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal with Benfica to sign midfielder Nicolas Gaitan in the summer.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Louis van Gaal's team have won the race for the Argentine midfielder, who will be allowed to leave the club as the Portuguese side look to balance their books.
The Red Devils have been on Gaitan's trail for over a year, with reports suggesting earlier in the season about United scouts being present at Benfica's games to monitor the player's progress this campaign.
The Portuguese side have completed the domestic double this season by winning the Primiera Liga and the League Cup and are looking to balance their books and are hence open to offers for some of their top players.
The report claims that the Old Trafford club have beaten off competition to agree a deal worth around £21.4m ($32.7) with the champions of Portugal.
This will come as a big blow to Liverpool, who were also interested in signing the midfielder as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his team with proven talent rather than players with future potential after this season's debacle.
Apart from Gaitan, teammate Eduardo Salvio is also on the radar of the Premier League clubs, but a knee injury on the final day of the campaign has put paid to his chances of a summer move, as interested clubs wait to know the extent of the injury before making a final decision.
Meanwhile, the Argentine midfielder has refused to divulge his plans for the future following the Benfica League Cup win over Maritimo. He admitted that it could be the last time he wore the Benfica shirt, but made it clear that he is happy at Benfica, and will make a decision only once he returns from vacation.

I think you guys are harsh on benteke. At the moment hes just a bit inconsistent, whther thats down to age or playing for villa i dont know. Not sure he suits you guys as said before but i wouldn't mind if chelsea bought him.
As for a 1 in 2 record being poor, thats actually a great record considering hes playing for villa. Whether thats 32m worth is debateable.
What i would say is higuan, aubeyamang and benzema 3 players you would all love and in more attacking teams and not under paul negative lambert all average around 1 in 2.
I find it funny that people are dissing bentekes record saying that is not good especially if you discount his first season (like that is a valid argument) and then think origi is the next great hope when his record pales in comparisson

There's a difference mate between "not good" and "not good enough for us to pay north of 25million for". Benteke is a good player but not exactly spectacular and with a release clause of 32 million? **** off. No way. Andy C version 2. For 15 million maybe.
Agreed but the way people have been going on about his goalscoring record like its rubbish and not good enough for pool (when it should be). He doesnt agree with your style fair enough. Hes no good with quick short passing and running down the channels. Fair dos. His goalscoring record isnt one of the reasons not to be getting him

Only the article in the Mail didn't say that. It said they'd allow RvP to leave if they could land Higuain from Napoli as a replacement.One of the gossip pages on sky app taken from Mail on Sunday...
united will ask for gonzalo higuain from juventus in a swap deal for RVP.
2 things, higuain is twice the player RVP is at the moment.... Oh and higuain plays for ****ing Napoli

Kenny was sacked for better season (Suarez issue might have had a hand in that) but until this end of season review takes place could go either way.
They sacked Dogleash immediately after the season ended though.
I think the fact that he's still in situ points to him being safe for the immediate future.

No I think last year would have event him one more year. Anything less than top 4 or trophies next year and he'll be gone thoigh
