I said back in August that spending that money on Isak was ludicrous, and that we could have had Guehi and Semenyo for that amount with £30m left over, so I'm not being wise after the event, and nor are many others who made the same point at the time. But we all feared as well that spending that money in the summer, though it was a fraction of what City's and Arsenal's net spend has been for the calendar year, would usher in another few years of austerity, and here we see that it will.

We had £35m for Guehi in August, and now we don't have £20m. Calamitous mismanagement. But don't worry - Slot can play Gravenberch, Endo, and even Gakpo at CB, apparently. Maybe even Isak - if he ever gets fit. We can probably throw Wirtz in at right back as well. All is good. :emoticon-0108-speec
I'm fairly certain we have the money but we basically don't bother bidding if City are interested

Since 2018 after Van Dijk we have only signed 5 senior centre backs
Konate
Ben Davies
Ozan Kabak
Sepp Van den Berg
Leoni

Kabak was just a loan with option to buy if I remeber rightly. Definitley neglected that position. 2 never really played for us.

Christ what a **** and short list. And its not like we've had an amazing kid come through the system either.

Only 2 have proved to any kind of success (and the jury is probably still out on Konate), I'll give Leoni a pass as well.

Relied way too much on VvD being the player he was/is.
This is such a poor reflection on the club, an unwillingness to improve from a position of strength.

You won't hear me moaning about spending on Wirtz; top quality players that will be seen as a bargain signing in years to come. Isak however, wasn't needed at all
Not sure about that. Not needed at the price, certainly, but with him and Eki out we are almost as thin up top as you are.
We had more pressing needs definitely, but I wouldn't say he was redundant.

bit misleading though as before that we already had Matip and Gomez who were very very good cb’s at the time and both formed great partnerships with vvd when he joined and Konate and vvd have since held the positions for last 2 years.

Not a bad thing to say that over the last 5 years we’ve managed for 90% of the games to have consistent cb partnership or either vvd Gomez, vvd Matip or vvd Konate.

Most on here to didn't even want him in the summer but they're now gutted we've not got him <laugh>
I’m not <laugh>
I think there will be better players out there though I do like having an English/British contingent in a squad though
I think a lot has been made of how much we spent but we sold a lot too
As a squad we are weaker and we have had a lot of injuries
I think we should be focussing on a trophy and top four
So whatever we need for that is what’s required

We are 4th so probably not that much in fairness if we can get some of the injured ones back

I would consider bringing back Elliot but O think he will be rusty

Think city and Arsenal are buying players so their opposition can’t

More fool the players that go there imho

Pretty much what I was going to respond with <ok>

Something is wrong. Players that we were favourites to sign are not coming. Are we even bidding? Or are they seeing our current form/style and giving us a swerve?

| Marc Guéhi’s Manchester City contract, broken down:

→ £15.6m per year
→ £1.3m per month
→ £300,000 per week
→ £42,900 per day
→ £1,800 per hour

[@alex_crook]

Do you think Marc Guehi is worth 300k per week? And do you think Liverpool could afford such high wage for a player who isn't better than Konate?

Rumour is we declined to bid on Guehi and Semenyo when it came down to it.

I would guess we couldn't match Citys offer (wages) so decided to not bother.

In Guehi's case it's only disappointing if we don't move on and find someone else, like we should have already done by now.
